From what I've read in the notes that came with the manual, the guy was a mechanic and seemed to know what he was doing. The carb has been replaced with an S&S Super E carb which is good because it's adjustable. All the lines and cables look good and the tires have good tread and no cracks on the sidewalls. The chrome is rusty in places but most of it will clean up.

Unfortunately my granddaughter and I leave for the Land of Fruits and Nuts on Thursday so it will have to wait until the first of August. I'll pull the carb, give it a cleaning and drain and flush the gas tank. I'll drain and change the oil and filter, see if it has spark, and squirt some gas in it and see if it makes any noise. If it runs, I may just clean it up and see how it rides and then probably put it up for sale as the barn find it is. "

I think most people know that Trump is trying very hard to stop the illegal flood into our country but is fighting an uphill battle with liberal Judges, sanctuary cities, constant, shrill criticism from the press, Pelosi and Schumer calling him inhumane and disgraceful etc and even some Republicans being wishy-washy about illegals...to the point of wanting to dismantle ICE.

I don't think the voters will hold Trump responsible for this, they will hold Democrats and Socialists responsible. After all, what will be the alternative to Trump...Elizabeth Warren? Joe Biden? Kamila Harris?

I think by 2020 the Republicans, Conservatives, Independents and disenfranchised Democrats will turn out to support Trump en masse and he'll win by a landslide. "

" Sometimes haters just have to hate. I'd hardly place the M-16 at the top of the list of worst military firearms our troops have been blessed with. The article seems to imply the major issues were the ammo and not the weapon itself. Every weapon has its issues to deal with.

I am less than impressed with the cartridge caliber. There have been suitable replacements developed, but the army balks at replacing the mountains of ammo already stocked. However, there is no one "fits all situations" caliber as of yet. "

" The CCP is the firearm I did not buy, and got a Sig P938 instead.

I like the Walther more, but decided against because of the gas system. It is a good system, and really does make it a softer shooter compared to my second choice P938. The reduced recoil is why it was my favorite.

My concern about the gas system was that it might require more maintenance and be more sensitive to dust/dirt/moisture under conditions of daily carry. Not sure my concerns are valid, just sharing my thinking at the time. So I went with my second choice.

Both are wonderful tack drivers.

ETA: I rented a lot of mouse guns, some several times, before making my pick between these two. "

You should see the gas! OMG! What's left of it is bright yellow. The inside of the gas tank is bright white. Obviously coated and no rust. Was this bike stored in a climate controlled environment...well New Hampshire has seasons, so that's climate. It's been out of the weather, that's about it although I think the cylinders were oiled because the plugs are finger tight and the engine rolled over easily. It came with two Harley service manuals so I'm going to do some reading before wrenching. I'm not up for a restoration I don't think, but we'll see how the innards look and I'll go from there "

I guess he thought that nothing would happen 'cause the Po Po won't notice him doing that.

" I would recommend looking at the Walther PPS M2 (ergo grip and American mag release) instead of the CCP. PPS has a great track record and is a "real" Walther. CCP has had a number of problems (that they have supposedly ironed out) and is a product of Walther's parent company. The size and grips are similar between the two. The CCP has a manual safety and the PPS M2 does not.

I have a PPS classic and have had some range time with a friend's PPS M2. "

" Rauner signed the "red flag" bill and the 72 hour wait for all firearms bill yesterday. Even as he was signing those, commies were wailing about how we need more gun control.

Apparently, the zombified gun dealer certification/licensing bill is being held by the legislature and is not on the Governor's desk. Yesterday he said he would veto that one if it comes to him.

I'll need to try and figure out how long the legislature can hold onto a bill before forwarding it to the Governor. The fact that they held it makes me think that they can hold it until the end of the two year term of the General Assembly which would mean they can hold it until Pritzker becomes Governor and it will get signed. " Somebody help me out here...I am scratching the hair off my head. I am not a vet but, I hear all the time that the advantages of the M-16 are that it is lighter, you can carry more ammo, etc.

But, I am a WW II buff and have researched and written about it. That justification for the M-16 makes no sense to me when you consider that there were no battles, other than TET, that equate to

the major battles of WW II, and the jungles of Viet Nam are certainly no worse or different than the Pacific Island jungles. These WW II battles were fought with M-1's and BAR's, for the most part, and

GI's won the war using those heavier, lower capacity rifles. We're talking Normandy, the Bulge, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal (some Marines still had 1903's). At Normandy, Gi's were digging M-1's

out of the sand and surf, field stripping and cleaning them behind sand dunes, and returning them to battle. Can you even do that with an M-16? I am having cognitive dissonance here. "

TN_Mike created the thread Tell me about the Walther CCP.
" My wife has been interested in getting a single stack 9mm for concealed carry for some time now. She still loves her XD 40 subcompact but, she would like something slimmer and not as heavy. She's been looking for a while now at single stack 9mm's and has determined she does not like the grip on the Shield. She has never liked Glocks and that have continued with the G43. She doesn't love the XDs.

Of all the guns she has held over the last year or so, the guns she has decided that she likes the grip on are the Sig P365 and the Walther CCP.

We've watched video after video of these guns being tested and have to say, we've seen and read of the 365 failing. And the striker drag that pretty much all of them display is not something she wants to deal with. As she said, even if it doesn't do that on her gun, it would always be in the back of her mind.

So she's settled on the Walther CCP and we would both like to hear from anyone that owns one, what has your experience been like with the gun? Likes? Dislikes? "

No, we don't have legal open carry here.

Had he cooperated he would have almost certainly been arrested, but come out of it just fine on the other side with just the misdemeanor and zero jail time, no revocation of FOID or anything. "

" I have posted studies and statistics showing that where walls have been built they have been pretty successful. These are facts (at least the stats are and the studies I have posted back those stats up. The only anti arguments I have seen look like opinions rather than stats.

What we have done in the past hasn't worked, Trump ran on it, the American people wanted it (at least those who voted in the heartland did), everything indicates that it will be reasonably successful, and the Border Patrol seems to be in favor of it especially in the population centers.

The simple fact is that if Trump does not show some progress it will hurt his chances in 2020 and perhaps the midterms, and that is the reason for the resistance from the Democrats and establishment. "

" Primary Arms has a new 1-6x24 with the reticle on the Front Focal Plane (FFP) vs. the Vortex scopes being Second Focal Plane (SFP). I understand the difference in reticle behavior but do not have experience with scoped ARs. I have been using a red dot but my eyes aren't what they used to be. Would anyone with experience please shed light on choosing one over the other? I'm considering the PA or the Vortex scopes for an AR that I'll be using mostly as a range gun for punching paper and steel out to 200-300 yards. "

notavictim created the thread Barn find Harley!.
" Yesterday my son in law called and told me that he and his brother had bought a house at auction and when they went to inspect the property, there was a garage in the woods behind the house. In the garage was a garden tractor, two lawn mowers, a snow blower and an old Harley. He sent me the VIN number and I found that it was a 1982 FLHTCUI Shriner with the 80 cui Shovelhead. It has been sitting in this garage since 2001! My son in law asked me if I wanted it. I said sure so he brought it over today. I was surprised that it looked as good as it does. The engine spins freely and after lubing the cylinders, it feels like it has good compression in both cylinders.

I'll spend some time this week checking it out to see what is what. It also came with a pickup truck bed full of extra parts including what looks like the factory fishtail pipes. It's got 29,000 miles on it. It will be fun to see what it needs to run and then the decision to keep it in the condition it's in or bring it back to it's former glory. Are any of you guys familiar with these old beasties? I've read the the Shriner bikes are limited production. I also read that 1982 was the first year that Harley was employee owned having bought the company from AMF so that year is special. Is this worth anything? Is it worth more as it sits as a barn find or is it worth more restored or at least cleaned up. I figured I would get it running and decide where to go from there.

1MoreGoodGuy created the thread The Forum's New Look.
" I'm giving our forum a new updated look.

Tomorrow, I will be changing the forum's "default" style to the "Blue/Grey12" style that I created last year.

"Blue/Grey12" has been the default style for our "Contests, Pass Arounds & Giveaways" sub-forum since it was created.

If you prefer the original vBulletin "Default Style" colors, you will need to do the following steps after I make the change to the new Blue/Grey12 style:

1. At the top of the forum click "Settings"

2. On the lefthand side of the page click "General Settings"

3. Scroll down to "Forum Skin"

4. Select "Default Style" from the dropdown menu

5. Scroll to the bottom and click "Save Changes"

If you've been using any of the other styles, this probably won't affect you but if it does just follow the steps up above and on step number 4 just select the style you have been using.

Let us know if you have any issues with viewing the forum style that you want to be using and we will help you out. "

" I find McLarens to be absolutely gorgeous cars. I don't really want one, and I can't afford one anyway. I feel bad for the guy, up to a point. He should have known better than to drive it beyond his abilities so soon after getting it.

Several years ago, I walked into a city government employee's office to talk with him about a construction issue I had. His desktop on his screen was a picture of a blue "Ford Cobra" car. I commented about how nice looking at was, and asked him about it. He said that was actually his car for a very brief period of time. It was actually a kit car, not a real one. Apparently the bodies were made by a company over in South Africa, and they shipped the bodies over to Charlotte, NC where a company put the engine and tranny in. He opted for the biggest engine. The day he went to pick it up from the dealer, he was driving it home and decided to open it up. He lost control and plowed through a tobacco field. He never drove it again after that day, and he sold it shortly thereafter after having it fixed back up. He took a bath on it financially. "

Perhaps they need a plain-language display, for the cockpits of "modern" aircraft. You know, something like: "O2 being shut off is about to cause the O2-correction devices to be deployed ... Are you sure you don't want to turn the O2 system back on before that happens??" Something for the training schools to cope with, I suppose, until such a day.
Actually there is no oxygen off switch, what he had to do was turn off the A/C system. That stopped air from coming into the airplane resulting in a loss of pressurization and the deployment of the oxygen masks. "

You break the law... you're punished.
Not rewarded like these parasites are. That's right parasites look it up. I'm sick and tired of how it's not their fault. Everything these people do cost others time, money, well being, safety, the list can go on and on. There is no reasonable justification for anything other than sealing the border by what ever means possible. The Wall to me is just a figure of speech.

This whole subject fires me up as much if not a little bit more than the anti gun blather. "

Dollar for dollar, I'd like to see tough handling of employers and services as probably a more-effective means of keeping the numbers down. But, as controls at ports and other entry points helps, so too will a border wall ... so long as it's staffed and effectively patrolled.
Ultimately, I feel like the subject of illegal immigration, a "wall" etc. will, much like this thread, revolve in circles with nothing of any significance happening and 10 years from now will look a lot like it does today. Hopefully I'm wrong, but when a good portion of half of the political system wants them to come in, large corporations rely on the illegal labor, Legalizing drugs isn't even considered etc. it doesn't bode well for anything happening but the status quo IMO. I think tougher enforcement on employers hiring illegal's and having a real, common sense approach to drugs, and denial of all social services (except true emergency care, that is the Christian in me) would solve the "illegal" problem. We are substituting good common sense laws, policies, and enforcement with a wall. Pretty much a waste of time building an object to try to solve a problem instead of changing behaviour. "

If it was a terrorist, they could throw a couple of bomb in the crowd and kill at least a couple thousand people. Sooooooooooooooooo ........ what makes you think you would be SAFE ? And you are concerned about 1 legal conceal carrier with a gun .... you have to be joking.

I watched the crowd..... and you could see the wheels in people's minds working and they then started talking about it.....

What morons. It's artificial . Performers are more of a target and should be allowed to carry, even if the crowd isn't. Because there is always that lame brain person .... who wants to become famous by shooting someone famous (I.E. Chapman shooting John Lennon). "
