" Well we have the non-political people demanding that we don't talk politics on a gun forum, even in the political thread, when it so obvious that politics has everything to do with the RTKAB, and now we shouldn't have humor in the Off Topic and Humor thread, when it is obvious that humor is a definite relief from the stress of the political talk. We really need to lighten up and laugh (in the proper place) every once in awhile. Besides OV is funny. I know that is not a good reputation to have when you strive to be the Curmudgeon, but let's face it he is.

Wild Dog, whoever he is, comes across more as a petulant poodle and I hope that is what he is striving for because if it isn't, he needs help. "

" I think getting dating advice from a gun forum may not be the way to go. Would you look to a dating website for gun advice? There is a lot out on the web about meeting people and dating, some written by women. Go there for advice, not here.

The traditional advice that most people give, though, goes something like this:

  • Be confident, but not cocky.
  • Take it slow, be patient.
  • Dress well and be well groomed. That varies from place to place. Dressing well in a rural town is much different than in Manhattan.
  • If you want her to get her interested in you, first be sincerely interested in her.
  • Be yourself.
  • Be honest, but avoid TMI.
  • Keep your mental antenna out. Remember the adage, "No matter how good she looks, someone somewhere is tired of putting up with her s--t.

ShooterGranny created the thread My DAY at the Driver's License office.
" Yes, it seemed like I was there all day.

I got a letter saying I had to have a new picture taken this time. They let me renew my carry permit on line without a new picture but not the driver's license. ???????? Sense this does not make.

I washed my hair and put on makeup so I would look as good as I could look. I had a chiropractor appointment so thought I would do both things with one trip to town. Good thing I always take a protein bar with me in my purse!

Five years ago you went to the building, took a number, and when they called your number you went to the counter, gave them your old license and they pulled up your information in the computer and verified it and then took your picture and printed out your new card and laminated it and you were on your way with your new license.

NO LONGER.

Now you have to go in and try to figure out how to use this machine that looks vaguely like an ATM. I had to have help and then it acted like it hadn't scanned my license properly. But finally it spit out a ticket with my number on it. Then you go and sit on a chair. There were a LOT of people sitting on the many rows of chairs.

After some length of time my number flashed at station #1, so I went up to the counter only to find out that all I got was a clip board with a form to fill out.

Then I waited. And waited. And waited. It certainly was interesting watching the people come and go while I was sitting there forever. There was the really tall older guy with a long grey beard and motorcycle do-rag cap, accompanied by a woman who was so short and skinny I'm sure she has to buy her clothes in the kids department. And the two teen girls, one with bright aqua long hair and a matching bright aqua under layer shirt and the other with dyed black hair with part of it bright red - food coloring red. And many more. Almost like shopping at WalMart, it was.

An hour and a half later my number finally came up yet again, at station #4, so I took my clipboard to the counter where the woman pulled up my information on the computer and proceeded to ask me all the questions I had just filled out on the form and for which she already had the same information in the computer.

The last time I had the license renewed I had made the joke about "if I knew you were going to take my picture I would have worn something besides goat vomit green," and the whole place laughed. This time I was SO tired and not in the best of moods after that long wait AND everyone was speaking so softly it was like being in a library. This might not have been so bad except I forgot to put in my hearing aid before I left home.

One of the questions on the form was whether you are hearing impaired. I checked no. Oh crap. After having to ask the woman to repeat herself 3 times while cupping my hands to my ears to gather in the sound, I thought I was going to go to jail for lying on the form about being hearing impaired!

Finally it was time to take my picture. I put on the brightest and happiest look I could manage at that point and they took the picture. I will say it is a good picture except it makes me LOOK OLD!!!!!!

THEN, the woman printed out my new driver's license, folded it and had me sign the back. However, that is my "temporary paper license" because they send or fax (or whatever the heck they do) the stuff to the main office or wherever, where they print it out all over again and laminate it and send it to you in the mail "hopefully within 30 days." If you don't get it in 30 days you are supposed to phone them.

And now it costs the state (me, the taxpayer) probably 4 times what it did before in printing, paper, employee paid hours and postage to issue my $28 driver's license which is good for 5 years.

I sure am glad they fixed a system which worked perfectly fine before.

I can hardly wait to see what further improvements they make five years from now! "

jmf552 replied to the thread The Fight Against Our Constitution.
" I see the incident in the OP as being as crazy as everyone else here does, but I don't think it is a "fight against the Constitution." These same people will demand their Constitutional rights when it suits them. They will be happy to have the Constitution behind them if anyone violates their rights to free speech. These are people who probably haven't read the Constitution, so how can they be fighting against it?

This is all about power, progressivism and a socialist agenda. The progressives want to get back in power and they will do whatever it takes, including firing up the mindless minions on college campuses. Just like gun control is not about guns, it's about control, speech control is not about speech. It is about control.

So I think this story is about selectively ignoring the Constitution, not fighting it. It's an important distinction because it puts the solution squarely in the court system. That's why job #1 in upcoming elections should be to get more conservatives on SCOTUS, as well as the lower courts. And since most of those judgeships are for life, we have a chance over the next six years to get this problem solved for many years to come. "

This is why sanctuary cities are federally illegal.

LINK
Exactly correct right up to your last point.

Yes the fed and Pres control immigration laws.
And there should not even be court cases questioning that.

But. Sanctuary cities counties or states are NOT illegal federally or otherwise.

The fed controls immigration law.
The states cities may constitutionally ignore those and any other Federal law and refuse to enforce or help enforce any Federal law.

If it's a Federal law it ultimately is the feds to enforce in any state or village that does not agree with that law.

Again this is settled case law in 4 separate SCOTUS cases.
CA or any other state is absolutely free to ignore snuffed law it wishes and force the fed to use only fed officers and resources to enforce that law.

National reciprocity was a smoke screen for that very reason.
States were free to ignore it and state officials or police could not be arrested by fed LE for ignoring it. "

I'm strongly considering it. I'm working on just where I can shoot them so my animal loving neighbor won't see the deer drop. That's only a part of the herd that wanders through here. In late winter, early spring, they gather together and I'll see 50-70 running together. If wasting disease hit here, they'd probably all go. "

Once, driving a school bus, I smelled marijuana burning. As soon as I could, I stopped the bus. Told them if I ever smelled it again, I'd turn around, go back to the school and the cops would be called and everyone searched. Response: the dope would be gone. I pointed out the everyone else on the bus that was carrying would have to toss their stash, too. Some eyes popped open. Then, complaints about where they all had to be after school. One guy, about 20-21 spoke up. Big guy. He'd dropped out of school and started work as a mechanic. He came back to school to finish high school. He said he needed to get to work. I pointed out that if someone saw someone about to light up a joint and went to stop them and in their hurry missed a bit, . . . well, I was watching the road and didn't see everything. The guy who had 30 pounds on anyone else in the bus said, "I understand." So did everyone else in the bus. Never had any more trouble.

The cops should be watching the law abiding people, keeping them safe. They can't watch everything, . . . "

At another home, I relocated them, but when I saw the mass of them at the next place, I didn't have the patience. Someone in the neighborhood was feeding the tree rats, and so they multiplied like rodents. Where I'm at now, we have a pair of hawks, a pair of owls, and a feral cat or two. It tends to keep down the tree rats. "

The only thing where the ACLU is against body cams that I could quickly find is an older Snopes article on something about the innaugaration. Snopes said it was false, and they might even be right there.

What I was thinking about was more recent, this year. Something about body cams being racist because they were used more against blacks. I'll have to keep looking.

Found something. NOT ACLU. I think this is what I was thinking of. This is NOT from the ACLU, but another organization.

" Hi. I have been having DSL issues with my computer, which slows down the messages that scroll on the bottom left of the screen. Normally, these messages pass so fast, one does not notice or see them. Well, since my machine is bogged down, I can see this Facebook message at the bottom of the screen "connect.facebook.net". Sometimes it says "Performing TLS Handshake with connect.facebook.net" and sometimes there are variations in the message like "loading data from connect.facebook.net".

I don't see anything regarding Facebook on PDF, and I am wondering where this is coming from. It is hard to say what part my machine issues are playing in this, however, I do not see these messages on other gun forums I visit. It does seem to bog my computer down even more than its usual dysfunction.

Also, I have NEVER used Facebook on this computer, or any of my other devices for that matter.

Full funeral for tree rats consisted of a shallow grave and a eulogy: "Good Riddance". The grave was mainly to discourage the coons and possoms. If I thought that leaving them there would have been a deterrent, I'd have left them where they lay, at least until I had to mow the lawn. I didn't think of it, but I should have had some music:

They plant early, mid, and late blooming tulips so that the festival has blooms. This year, I expect that going the week or two after the festival will be best for traffic and tulips.

We only have a few tulips in a planter we keep on the front stoop. Otherwise the deer would devour them. I think I have too many deer.

There is a time for serious and a time for humor. I enjoy both here on this forum. Check out my posts. I think I cover the range; I sure hope that I do. A good belly laugh really helps me handle the more serious issues that we discuss here. If it were not for humor, it would be too easy to get down over some of the news that we see and the directions that we see society taking.

I had a professor who had gone through a nervous breakdown. He gave us some really good advice based on his experiences. One point he mentioned was that when we started to lose our sense of humor, we were getting into serious issues with emotional stability.

Think about that with Boss Hogg. Have you ever seen a picture or video of him with a smile? That poor boy must be in a world of hurt. It is out of that hurt that he is lashing out in anger. He would be a lot better off, and so would society, if he would take a week or two and just watch some great classic humor. Say about 40 hours of Johnny Carson monologues. "

" Itís worse . We have an event like what was happening in Charlottesville, VA. There the police rescinded the permit for the Right Group and were forced into the crowd of left protestors, the police offered no protection, the Governor a loony lefty himself supported the Antifa protest and an Antifa got run over by a scared person in a vehicle . I see bad things on the horizon for the US. NEVER EVER GIVE UP YOUR GUNS OR RIGHTS!

Get caught being violent -- expulsion and criminal charges by the county DA.

Get caught derailing or shutting down such "discussion" events -- perhaps one warning, followed by expulsion if any similar act is done in future. (Barring simply speaking, asking questions, following the "moderator/facilitator" direction for the event's proceedings.)

Shouldn't matter what the topic is. If such institutions are to be centers of "higher" learning, then the "high road" needs to be the path taken, IMO. Thugs and rabble-rousers should be eliminated, at such venues and events. If they want to "speak" on the subject (with such violence), they can do elsewhere on their own "nickel."
Hard to eliminate them when they are the professors and administration. "
