Gatopardo replied to the thread Your gun sights can be more efficient with this..
" This is what Glow-On does...The rest is up to you.
Be safe.
Follow gun safety rules dogmatically and always remember knowledge is power.

Here are some versions:
---------------------------------------------------------
Jeff Cooper's Four Rules:[6]

All guns are always loaded.
Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

--------------------------------------------------------
The National Rifle Association provides a similar set of rules:[7]

ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

--------------------------------------------------------
Project Appleseed provides similar rules for their rifle marksmanship clinics:[8]

Always keep the muzzle in a safe direction.
Do not load until given the load command.
Keep your finger off the trigger until the sights are on the target.
Make sure those around you follow the safety rules.

----------------------------------------------------
The Canadian Firearms Program uses the concept of The Four Firearm ACTS:[9]

Assume every firearm is loaded.
Control the muzzle direction at all times.
Trigger finger off the trigger and out of trigger guard.
See that the firearm is unloaded.

------------------------------------------------------------------
The United States Marine Corps uses the following four weapons safety rules:

Treat every weapon as if it were loaded
Never point the weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you're ready to fire
Keep the weapon on safe until you intend to fire.

Gatopardo created the thread If we lived in a perfect world, everything would work as expected..
" Our mind can do only two things:
We can remember the past...
We can imagine the future.

If we lived in a perfect world everything would work as expected.
Nothing bad would happen,
Everyone would be happy,
Everyone would be satisfied,
We all would live one thousand years without getting old...

Our team would always win.
But sometimes it doesn't.

We can only do the best we can, all of us, always...
And things always get better with time.

Gatopardo created the thread Three dots of glow paint in the right place can give you the advantage you need..
" Seemingly small things which add efficiency and allow the effective completion of any procedure should be considered.
Fresh batteries, charged cellphones, emergency lamps, luminescent markers on your gun sights.
Our focus is the home defense.

The deployment of a sound defense strategy at home doesn't have to involve a rugged guy shrouded in camo and special operator's skills...
How many of those do you have at home?
And if you are that.. and fail...who is next?

Gatopardo created the thread A simple way to create custom gun sights on plain irons..

There is beauty in simplicity.
All it takes is two drops of Glow-On.

First, clean the surface with 95% alcohol...
Don't use diesel or oil.

Just load the wooden stick generously, deposit one big fat drop of paint on the front and one on the rear.
Make sure they are centered in the X/Y axis.

30 mins into the drying time, the Glow-On has the consistency of soft putty, now we can "flatten" the sights a bit with the side of a blade so that it can catch the light uniformly.
Now we have two small circles.

At this point, if it doesn't look perfect to you, just rub the paint off, clean with alcohol and try again.
Let it dry for a couple of hours, apply a couple of layers of transparent nail polish of good quality. Avoid UV filtering clear coats. This stuff 'eats'light.
The whole thing will cure in a few days.

Here is the progression:

Gatopardo created the thread Synergy, a natural force we can use to our advantage.
" 1-Synergy

Synergy is broadly defined as the combined effects of two or more organisms to produce a greater result than each would achieve individually.
Synergism in nature includes altruism, reciprocity, functional interdependence, mutualism, and parasitism.

2- Human example of applied synergy.

Friendship among humans is a great example:
Two or more individuals bonded by this nexus can overcome the effect of many more individuals who don't share the same trait.

3- Synergy and problem-solving.

Problem-solving is another human example of a synergistic effect, simple solutions always have an effect that can be re-created over and over.
And you don't have to be an expert at anything:
Von Braun was not an expert at going to the moon.
The guy who invented the shopping cart was an expert shopper.
The guy who invented the egg carton (whom I happen to know) knows more about an egg than you or I.

You basically copy nature and then you find what problems you can solve.

4- A few examples of synergy in nature.

Anemones repel octopuses trying to eat the crabs and the crabs repulse starfish preying on anemones.
Clownfish also have a mutualistic relationship with sea anemones.

The anemones repel clownfish predators by stinging them with their tentacles.
A protective layer on the clownfish's skin protects them from the sting.
At the same time, clownfish scare off butterflyfish that try to eat the anemones.

The effect is also created when predators have evolved body parts which look or they themselves resemble their prey's prey.

5- Fishing lures application

Let's think fishing lures:

An inorganic inanimated object, which we can make to look by a synergistic effect like organic animated prey.

Add to that the fact that fish's eyes see a UV wavelength world underwater, a place where there is almost no light.

And we can come up with solutions like the following ones.

Gatopardo created the thread To exercise control is job number one..
" Here are a few definitions I find very important in my daily life, I hope you'll find something useful as well.
Nothing is perfect, I am certainly not, so be nice.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONTROL:

-To exercise restraining or directing influence over a situation.
-To reduce the incidence or severity of potentially harmful situations to innocuous levels.
-Exercise control by developing a sound character and to follow proper protocols.

TIP: Be aware, CONTROL and MANIPULATION are not the same things.
Control is a regulatory force, it makes it possible to create a proper procedure which can be repeated over and over.
Manipulation is enforced by deception.
Control is the first and last stage of any production line. Manipulation is not a constructive force, control is.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REGARDING A TEAM OR A FAMILY

A team and a family have one thing in common: Everyone plays an important role.
For every member of a team or family control is job number one.

- Always have a plan.

- Be aware of daily cycles and everyone routine.

- Promote a safe environment so the end of each cycle makes the next cycle possible.

- Let everyone know you have their back:

Always gather information, there is always something we don't know.
Always tell the truth to be trusted.
Always exercise compassion, no one is perfect.
Face problems head-on and create a plan.
Discipline starts with oneself.

- Make very clear all restrictions and proper usage of time and equipment or tools.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our focus is the home defense.

-Always heed federal and local legislation regarding firearms. Contact local authorities to learn more.

-Store firearms in a safe manner, digitally activated safes will allow you to retrieve them in seconds.

-Always perform a safety check before any repair or maintenance procedure on any firearm.

-Always perform a safety check every time you handle a firearm to another person.

-Never handle a firearm to another person with a round in the chamber.

-Gun safety rules always apply:

1-All guns are always loaded.
2-Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3-Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4-Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

-A responsible gun owner always promotes gun safety.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special care should be exercised in the storage and usage of:

-Dangerous chemicals and pesticides.

-Motor vehicles and farming equipment.

-Tools in general

-Lawn equipment.

-Firearms.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Be safe, keep your head over your shoulders and love your family each day like it's the last.

Gatopardo created the thread Even if we think our options are limited. There are always alternatives..
" Technologically speaking, if the past was an accurate representation of the future, then our options today would be limited to that experience.
But that is not what really happens,

Gatopardo created the thread Before you perform maintenance or repair work on your firearm, do this and live..
" If this is the first time you visit this great forum, or if you are considering the purchase of any type of firearm and you are looking for sage advise.
Welcome!
Valuable information from professionals regarding the safe use, maintenance, and general information available on your screen.

This post is mainly aimed at new firearm enthusiasts.
But firearm safety is a constant factor for all of us, so for seasoned members, it's just a friendly reminder.

Firearm Safety Check Procedure.
This is an obligatory procedure for everyone handling any type of firearm.
The first thing you will teach your kids, friends or pupils being introduced into the use of any firearm is how to render it safe.
The goal is to render a firearm into a paperweight.
You can still jam your finger, but..you will live.

Gun safety rules apply, always have a backstop, keep the finger off the trigger, point the firearm in a safe direction at all times.
And if there is someone else in the room beside you, always remove the ammo from the room or the workbench.
Never use live ammunition to test the loading mechanism, spend a few bucks and get some dummy rounds.
Believe me, accidental discharges will happen, Murphy's Law applies.

Please like and share with your friends.

Gatopardo created the thread You want to re-paint your gun sights, but paint is not your thing? Check this out!.

If the paint is not your thing, we have our premium .08 mm glow film.
Just cut, and paste with Superglue gel.
in fact, I will post a few baggies with ready to use dots on eBay.

Cut a small piece.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070883.JPG

Discard the backing.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070884.JPG

The adhesive layer is not permanent and also removable.
Please remember to remove it before you use permanent adhesive.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070885.JPG

Make sure you cut enough glow film to carve the pieces you need.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070886.JPG

With a pencil delineate the inner notch profile.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070887.JPG

now the real work begins, with an X-Acto knife cut the center notch making sure you create straight angles.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070888.JPG

Test for size several times.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070891.JPG

In our case, we made sure the glowing piece would cover the white dots.
then we used Super glue gel and let it rest.
don't use regular super glue.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/...s/P1070892.JPG

A hole punch will create instant dots as well.
Here are a few things you might need:

Gatopardo created the thread A better shotgun with liquid Glow-On.
" If this is your first visit to this forum, or if you are a new firearms enthusiast, Welcome!
Thousands and thousands of hours of expert advice and knowledge on your screen!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A basic pump-action shotgun is the most effective home defense firearm.

Here we created a basic glow in the dark gun sights with liquid Glow-On.
It looks like a landing strip.
The markings on this firearm are 10 years old and they are as bright as new.
It took minutes to apply.
Glow-On liquid is not a flat paint product, it is volumetric.
With twice the amount of glow particles and half the binder than other competitive products.
Glow-On is opaque, it contains its own primer, it covers dark surfaces efficiently.

Glow-On is available in eight different colors: Original, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Hot Pink, Blue, and Aqua.

Gatopardo created the thread Glow-On right between plain iron sights and other technologies. Questions answered..

Welcome to our section of this great forum.
If your firearms have plain iron sights or standard white dots, this might be for you.
If it's not, thanks for coming anyway, the following questions might be of interest still, please be nice.

What is Glow-On?
Glow-On is a super bright, concentrated, glow in the dark paint, with a nice and silky texture.
With twice the amount of glow particles and half the binder than other competitive products.
Glow-On is opaque, it contains its own primer, it covers dark surfaces efficiently.

-How does it work?:
Glow-On absorbs light and it releases it afterward one bit at a time for hours.
The initial glow is very intense, then it fades gradually

-Will I be able to see it during the day?
Glow-On is available in 8 different luminescent bright colors:
Original, Aqua, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Pink.

-How long does it take to charge it?
It takes a couple of seconds.

-What do I use to charge it?
Daylight charges it instantly, in dark conditions a LED lamp works great.
http://ninjalawncare.org/sensorycue/...on_dayuse2.png
http://ninjalawncare.org/sensorycue/...on_dayuse7.png

-How long does the glow will last?
The glow will last at its lowest level all night long.
The initial glow is very intense many time more than tritium, then fades to levels only perceptible if our eyes are adapted to darkness.
Then you can see it any time, all night long.

http://ninjalawncare.org/sensorycue/...cay_graph1.png

-Should I leave it under a lamp for hours to get it to glow?
No, it takes just two seconds.
Imagine placing a tiny cup under a faucet...It fills up in two seconds.
Now imagine it using one drop of water at a time, it will last for hours.
Leaving Glow-On under the sun, or a lamp for hours is equivalent to leaving a cup under an open faucet for hours. It can only absorb so much

-Do I have to reapply it often?
No, the process can be repeated millions of times for the half-life of the product, about 15 years.

-How does it compare with other technologies?

Here is how it compares with tritium.
http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/glowdecay-graphic.png

Here is how it compares to white dots.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/sensorycue/..._paint_101.png

-How can it be removed?
Yes, just touch it with a bit of Acetone to soften it and then just dislodge it with the handle of a thin wooden brush.

-Where can I find more info?

Gatopardo created the thread Imagine your gun sights taking a big gulp of light, and then carry it into the dark side..
" That is exactly what this technology does.

Q: What happens if I enter a building like a shed or a barn with Gow-On on with my gun sights during the day?
Do I need to expose them to light?

A: In the daytime, the gun sights will glow to the max as soon as you unholster your firearm.
For short crucial minutes, the Glow-On on your gun sights is brighter than tritium.

These are not completely dark places, tritium will not help you here.

Let's see the following examples:

Let's see some action now.
Here I pull my conceal carry before I enter a small shed.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1030745.JPG

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1030743.JPG

Look at this progression.
From light into darkness, the gun sights come alive.
Daylight does all the job.
Imagine your gun sights taking a big gulp of light, the releasing it bit by bit to let you see the gun sights.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1030705.JPG

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1030706.JPG

Red and Green now.
We are showing a full gun sights approach, we've applied liquid Glow-On to the whole area, front and rear, for maximum visibility.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1090697.JPG

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1090698.JPG

Blue and Orange.
We highlighted only the inner square notch profile on the rear gun sights, the front we painted whole.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1090299.JPG

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1090301.JPG

Let's keep in mind, these are the unlikely situations, if we are aware of a suspicious situation, a call to 911 is what we recommend.
We are merely pointing out at the possibilities.
A better chance to survive the unpredictable. "

Gatopardo created the thread How the gun sights on my concealed carry evolved with Glow-On.
" The vast majority of firearms sold in the US are fitted with plain iron sights and handguns with plain sights or white dots.

On this short video, I show how I upgraded my small concealed carry.
First, the dots were upgraded, but why stop there? Afterward, I applied Glow-On to the whole gun sights, covered the dots and then I trimmed it around to make straight angles.

That was done for aesthetic purposes I could have left the whole rear gun sights painted whole.

Glow-On is opaque so that it covers dark surfaces efficiently.

thanks for the support.

Gatopardo created the thread Gun Sights Tutorial: Quick upgrade, three different scenarios with Glow-On.

Most firearms come retrofitted with standard gun sights, the simplest configuration possible.
If your firearm or firearms, handguns, long guns what have you... came out the box with standard, simple iron sights, three white dots, etc.
There is room for improvement, however minimal.

We offer a simple solution for simple gun sights: Glow-On Super Phosphorescent.

Glow-On adds a layer of glow-in-the-dark material to your gun sights to extend their effectiveness in dark conditions.
Some of our products come in bright basic colors to help save brain cycles.

This tutorial shows in short three minutes, how I applied it to three different gun sights.

-The first one is just plain iron sights, black color.
-The second one is white dots.
-The third one, we removed the white paint so it's just the empty wells.

This is a very simple, affordable upgrade.
You just have to apply it once, you can remove it and change color, mix colors, etc.
Manufacturers won't do this for you.

And the good thing is it can be done in a few minutes.

Gatopardo created the thread The most basic and rudimentary gun sights upgrade: Glow-On Super Phosphorescent.

Glow-On is the most basic, affordable and practical upgrade a gun enthusiast can ever find.
Straight out of the box, any firearm with basic gun sights is ready to take the Glow-On upgrade.

Three drops of specifically designed Glow-On is all it takes.
If you remove those sights to replace them with something else, you have already added utility value to them if you need to retrofit them.
It happens all the time.

I can't count the number of time I had to revert to basic gun sights for lack of batteries or because a gas vial is broken.

Give it a try, find more info here:

Complaints are just part of life. I welcome them!
In fact, they are a positive part of life, it shows people are alive and well. They also point to the fact that nothing is perfect.
When my 6 years old complains about something I know there is a good chance that it's because he doesn't know yet how to use it.

But let's take your points to task if we may...

1- Glow-On will Glow all night long, that is a guarantee. so yes it's long lasting.

2- Glow-On will only set you back the cost of a fast food meal.
Less than that and the economy would stop running.

3- Nothing is a long term solution.

-Here is how I know it will glow all night long:
I have a few shirts with small dots of Glow-On and I have to change them because of the glow, even after a few hours gets a bit annoying.
So, when someone says the glow lasts 5 minutes I know for this fact that the problem is something else.

-Here is how I know it will last for a long time:
Some of the old shirts I've had for years washed thousands of times and the paint and the glow is still there! Even longer than whatever picture was printed on that shirt.
The glow material is a mineral it is indestructible! unlike tritium gs vial, it will not break.

Gatopardo created the thread The power of a few drops of paint..
" I wouldn't choose a new fiancee based on how well she bakes cakes, no matter how much my grandma insists that my new wife should know how to properly bake a cake!!
My fiance might not be able to cook a cup of instant coffee...but boy! Who needs coffee when she's around!

When a student buys a two-seater-super-compact will be his/her decision on how much money will be saved on gas and put into so much more fun things to do.

'LITE CHOICES'
There are many advantages to making 'lite' choices.
The evident advantage of a Swiss knife over a bowie knife for instance.
I carry a Swiss knife everywhere, even when I travel, while I have a nice bowie knife for 20 years which I have never used!

Glow-On is a 'lite' alternative to more onerous choices.
It will also work along with many of them and it can be applied to any firearm.
No adaptation is required.

Adaptation requires a structural change.
The same way that wearing makes up doesn't require any type of adaptation or physical change.
We don't have to buy different faces for different occasions, we just put a little paint on it, some hair color, etc.

THE POWER OF A FEW DROPS OF PAINT
Someone could argue that paint means nothing, that paint is not a real upgrade, paint won't help you hurt someone, not a thing!...
Really? Here are three proven facts that will change your mind about paint:

-Two or three square foot canvas, painted by some crafty dudes go for hundreds of thousands of dollars every week at Sotheby's...
Dollars created by hours and hours of labor, hot steaming 24/7 working industry, heavy machinery, stock market warriors and many more.... just to buy a few, well placed, ounces of paint.

-Cleopatra wrecked the Roman Empire with ground malachite and ground lapis lazuli stone deftly applied by her makeup artist over her eyes...Who knew a makeup artist could do that: To wreck an empire.
She didn't need an army.

-Even our survival as a species in this world has a lot to do with a few brushstrokes of makeup and a few drops of floral perfume. Lol!

That is how we see our approach, a simple, affordable, durable, effective choice.

Gatopardo created the thread A quick tutorial: Glow in the dark gun sights.
http://glow-on.com/purchase.html

An easy, very quick way to upgrade simple gun sights into glow in the dark enhanced gun sights.
three dots would suffice in most cases. one dot on the front is not out of the question. Plain iron sights on long guns are easy to make as well.

We decided to go the fancy way here.
however, the same result can be achieved just using your free hand.
It's a paint product.
It's a water-based acrylic after it dries it will last forever.

Originally the two handguns looked like this:

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080900.JPG

then a spot on paint on the front sights each...We used Yellow.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080905.JPG
http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080906.JPG

We then apply Glow-On to the rear very generously covering the whole area and we let it dry for about 30 minutes.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080925.JPG

We could just leave it like this.
It works perfectly for me. Here is what we have so far on both handguns:

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080929.JPG
http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080930.JPG

Then we use an X-Acto knife and we do two things:

1- First we pres softly over the semi-dry putty-like Glow-On to make it flatter.
2- Second, we trim around it until we are happy with the results. Square angles are what is popular with humans so be it.

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080939.JPG
http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080938.JPG

This is the end result:

http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080965.JPG
http://ninjalawncare.biz/colors/P1080966.JPG

Seal it a couple of days later with transparent nail polish. don't use the UV filter type.
Leave it alone for a couple of days! Don't scratch it to check for adhesion. "

If others don't keep going while we rest, then that would be the end.

Misuse...
Misuse is not an option regarding certain things in life.
Like a family, pets, our communities.
Regarding only our personal safety in disregard of the rest of us is not an option.
Let us use empathy regarding the safety of others.

"Be Safe" doesn't mean stay away from cars, lawnmowers, boats, airplanes..or firearms, firearms are just like the aforementioned, just tools.
Something to think about; Cemeteries are full of guys who never knew what happened.
Let's act accordingly.
To "Be safe" involves know-how.

If you are new to firearms, and before you fire your first round.
Seek advice and instruction.
This forum is a great option.
Hundreds of thousands of hours of experience from professionals in law enforcement, military, and training in general.
Just one key away, a one to one experience.

Inquire about local and federal regulations.
If you have a lawyer, arrange a visit to inquire about liabilities.

To "Be Safe", means to stay alive, you and everyone else.

Now... If an SHTF event should happen...Then "BE READY.
The same procedure applies, this forum has enough salt for that steak too.

Have a great day everyone and thanks for the support.

P.S. If the whole thing sounds cheesy, remember that the people who love you, they love you when you are cheesy...Not your normal self...Lol!

And now some scientific info to make your brain hurt a bit.

Erratic individuals barging into your back yard, or banging or on your door in the middle of the night sometimes are under the influence.
The last thing you need is an event like this to change your life forever.
Being that there is an emergency system in place.
