It sucks, and I wish we hadn't come to this as a society, but it's not really a matter of the letter of the 4th. The spirit of the 4th, maybe, in more of a philosophical sense, but not really a legal matter in that case.

In this area the population is growing and we are getting more national chain stores in the larger towns and I have noticed more FOL signs popping up. I have left 3 businesses recently (Cheesecake Factory, Jareds Jewelry and a theater chain) but not before I made sure to tell the manager why and that I would not be back. Until all gun owners and carriers do the same and stick to it, it will probably get worse, and may anyway.

That is one thing I like about getting old, I have finally figured out that I really don't need these people or their businesses.
^^^^^^^I'm in this camp here^^^^^^^^^^^^^

No place I need to be that badly. The only place I go to that I won't can't carry is medical facilities and my work. I have the possibility of interacting with LEO because of my work, that I do not want to carry while working. I limit and adjust my exposure to where I go while working so as not to subject myself to possible situations that could be bad situations, and I carry alternative methods of safeguards should I be attacked. Also, If I were to ever have a medical situation(heart attack, accident,,, etc etc) my employer would then most likely become aware of the fact that I was carrying and its not worth the risk of losing my paycheck . It will not stop here , in Maryland early next year we are in for a flood of "new" more life saving laws and ideas on how to screw over the law abiding citizen . It is a disgrace IMHO and it will never stop until they have total control .

I don't own a bump-stock and would never buy one , i have a belt loop or bungee cord i could use if i wanted the same effect . But the liberal idiots want all guns you can be sure of that . "

I don't see this as a threat to the 4th,
Although the SCOTUS has ruled concerning private security vs. gov intrusion; I DO see it as a threat to the 4th.

Many here have expressed their thoughts as "well; I just won't go to that place"

Where does it end?
Do legal gun owners simply keep giving in as more and more places fall under "Private" security control until the only place
we can carry will be the practice range?

The video I posted clearly shows Obama wanting a National security force separate from the U.S Gov.

Perhaps a extreme example: Hitler's SS (“Protective Echelon,”), were more than willing to do his dirty work as standard German officers did not want to do it.

At the end of the day and why I see this as a attack on the 4th is simple...

The SCOTUS has ruled the 2A extends beyond my domicile; apparently the 4th does not? "

A lot of unburned powder leaves the muzzles of firearms that may have accumulated on the floor, seemed like an awful lot though. "

" Well, if it's magnesium, sure don't want to use any water on it ... unless you really know what you are doing. Water stirs it up and makes it much worse.

We trained with the fire dept, and one thing was putting out magnesium with water, ..... out of all the folks there, I was the only that "got it" and could put it out with water. Have to spray the water in a way to builds a uniform layer of water above it, that drops as a wall of water and takes all the oxygen away from it. Water on the fire, is a really bad idea. Good there was NOT an automatic sprinkler system. But then, maybe they did and the reason it continued to get so much worse. "

" Interesting read. I was born in 1950 and attending school in the 1950s and 1960s WWII was a common subject in history class. My father served in Germany but until I returned from Vietnam he would never discuss the war, sadly he passed in 1973 so I never had the experience to learn his experiences during the war. On my first trip west our first stop was Hickam AFB; on the way to Command Post I noticed pockmarks on the PACAF Headquarters. Asking my instructor about them he informed they were bullet holes left over from the 7 December 1941 attack. Having transiting many of the islands in the Pacific it was not unusual to see remnants of enforcements and equipment left over from the war. "

" I have no vested interest in bump stocks ..... BUT , I do have concerns about this

ATF , and some others, are taking this as a way to ban accessories of all types on guns. ATF had an advisory out, that ANYTHING outside of the original configuration of the gun submitted to them by the Gun Mfgr, would not be approved by the ATF. They were advising people to not even submit anything, as they will no longer be doing it.

They are taking it more, that ANY accessory outside the original configuration the Mfgr submitted, any other accessories could be banned, and may not be allowed.

Lasers, different grips (Hogue) , scopes, different triggers, and about anything would fall into that. They seem to see it as an "open door". "

Arejay created the thread Short Essay on WWII.
" Written in 1997. I came across it only yesterday. I read it again just now. The author decides to ask people what they know or even remember about the second world war. It wasn't surprising to me that he found the answer to be almost nothing. After reading the essay I found myself in that condition of "reverent gratitude"

I figured people had to know the basics -- World War II isn't exactly easy to miss. It was the largest war ever fought, the largest single event in history. Other than the black death of the Middle Ages, it's the worst thing we know of that has ever happened to the human race. Its aftereffects surround us in countless intertwining ways: all sorts of technological commonplaces, from computers to radar to nuclear power, date back to some secret World War II military project or another; the most efficient military systems became the model for the bureaucratic structures of postwar white-collar corporations; even the current landscape of America owes its existence to the war, since the fantastic profusion of suburban development that began in the late 1940s was essentially underwritten by the federal government as one vast World War II veterans' benefit. (Before the war there were 3 suburban shopping centers in the U.S.; ten years after it ended there were 3,000.)
So what did the people I asked know about the war? Nobody could tell me the first thing about it. Once they got past who won they almost drew a blank. All they knew were those big totemic names -- Pearl Harbor, D day, Auschwitz, Hiroshima -- whose unfathomable reaches of experience had been boiled down to an abstract atrocity. The rest was gone. Kasserine, Leyte Gulf, Corregidor, Falaise, the Ardennes didn't provoke a glimmer of recognition; they might as well have been off-ramps on some exotic interstate. I started getting the creepy feeling that the war had actually happened a thousand years ago, and so it was forgivable if people were a little vague on the difference between the Normandy invasion and the Norman Conquest and couldn't say offhand whether the boats sailed from France to England or the other way around.

Looks like some sort of mat or coating on the floor caught on fire. And the whole thing went up very very fast.

Magnesium (the pellets in Dragon's Breath shot shells) burns at about 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, so it can ignite materials that might not otherwise burn if exposed to normal ignition sources like a matches or lighters.

ETA: Not sure it was incendiary shells, but does look like some sort of mat rolled out on the floor. Looks like the entire mat went up in about 3 seconds starting at 1:27 in the video. "

My BIL who is a deputy sheriff did the exact same thing with a brand of gun you have to pull the trigger to break down. He was luckier (although I hesitate to use that adjective.) He only ended up with a hole in hand and no lasting damage.

I've seen many videos of negligent discharges. My guess is the range posted the video since it was their camera, and when these things go on the interwebz, they go viral. Once that genie is out of the bottle it can't be stuffed back in. "

The minute we think we are too smart, too skilled or too careful to have an unintended discharge is when we increase our likelihood of having one.

" Private property and the the right to choose. I don't see this as a threat to the 4th, but I do see it as a good reason to turn around and leave and letting the property owners know why. This will always be a problem as long as half the population or more thinks that guns kill people, and our half or less of the population (who know it is people who kill people) will not make these fools aware of how stupid we think they are.

Dec 6

Update on Betsy Nelson/Nelson Holsters

James asked me to post this for him.

They got scan results today. The cancer has metastasized, spreading to her lungs and back again in her esophagus. Without chemo, the doctor is giving her 6-9 months. The doctor feels that chemo gives a 70-80% chance to get this into remission, but he's not sure for how long. This is a very aggressive cancer.

He also said they aren't done by a long shot. They're not giving up without a fight.

He didn't mention holsters, but I'm going to assume they are taking a back seat here.

Prayers for them both, please.

Dec 17

Betsy is going through Chemo again to put the cancer in remission and they are looking into ways to keep it from coming back.
Still a lot of prayers needed. "

" I have serious questions regarding that officer's judgement.

Police K9s have special training, and putting such a dog up for adoption is akin to offering a weapon to someone not trained to handle it. Especially if they don't know what they are bringing home.

I think trained handlers should be able to keep their retired dogs, and the handler is best equipped to provide a good and safe environment. But I guess not this one... "

In this instance, a private business owner has elected to have security check for weapons. Itís not the government, and itís not random stop and frisk. They can do what they want as youíve volunteered to go onto their property. "

" Maybe it'd be fun to get all righteous and say, "I never would screw up like that". Well, sort of - I've long avoided the temptation to advertise contents of my vehicle with 2a or hardware decals.

However, I will leave my handgun in the car rather than risk violation of my carry permit rules. Although I dislike entering gun free zones, my life includes some of these. The gun may remain, hidden and locked, in my unmarked pov. Otherwise I'm carrying.

One can't eliminate risk. Each of us simply do our best to mitigate it. Good on ya if you do it better than someone else. "

" There is a lot of outrage over a practice that has been ongoing since I started going to concerts in the 70s. Just last month I attended a Christmas concert where everyone got "wanded" and purses searched. I knew this in advance and knowingly entered unarmed, including my pocketknife. It was my choice to attend or not. I chose to attend as it is likely the last time I will ever get to see this performance live as the performance goes to different parts of the country each year.

The irony is, my wife is in a wheelchair. And I guess out of sympathy with her in a pressing crowd, they waived us on through without being searched. So clearly their process isn't perfect and allows discretion by the human screeners. For all they knew I was going to go out in a blaze of glory in a "GFZ".

I don't consider this a 4A issue as it was a private venue. Their house, their rules. And I knew what the process was in advance. Violation of due process is when they change the rules, don't tell you, find you in violation, and then prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. THEN I would have been appoplectic. "

I recently attended a Christmas concert here in Ft. Wayne where we were patted down and women's purses
had to be opened while PRIVATE security looked inside. Hence; the reason for this post and food for thought and discussion.

When I objected to the search, I was told it was "for the safety of all patrons"

Interestingly; not ALL people were being searched AND...during the intermission, no one was being checked
as people came in and went out! For my safety? Please!

Private security firms apparently are NOT constrained by the 4A as the SCOTUS has ruled on this in that it only
applies to governments, local, state and federal.

Is it any wonder Obama was pushing for a civilian security force?

This is VERY dangerous and should be fought with the same vigor as with the 2A!
I will not comply.

But, far too many will. "
