" The law needs to be more specific to make sure some opportunist Judge does not go whacko on this. I think the example of "gun oil" is a good reason to have it defined. I also think it is a good easy defense unless you or your lawyer is an idiot.

Judge: I see that you oil your gun and clean it. Is that so you can shoot faster?

Defendant: No, it is because I do not want it to not fire at all

Nothing in the law says anything about having a gun that can fire a bullett

Does anyone have a trasncriupt of the hearing where the judge said that anyways? "

" Henry Winkler wins first Emmy award after four decades in TV

It only took Henry Winkler more than four decades to take home his first Emmy of his career after he was first nominated for his role as The Fonz in "Happy Days."

Winkler, 72, looked bowled over when he won for best supporting actor in a comedy series on Monday for his role as Gene Cousineau on HBO's dark comedy "Barry."

Once he took the stage amid roaring applause and a standing ovation, Winkler joked that he wrote his speech 43 years ago.

Well, @Lionround, I came of age in the 60's, and I was a head-banging rock-n-roller, but also a big fan of Simon & Garfunkle. Kind of odd, eh? I always thought "Sound of Silence" was a masterpiece! Never could stand "heavy metal", though! Felt like it had lost the essence of real rock, and was mostly noise.

It was probably only a year or so ago that I first heard that some heavy metal band had done a remake of "Sound of Silence".

I was like, Attachment 16363. What a crock! One of these talentless, noise-generating bands of dopers really thought they could do, "Sound of Silence"???

Then I listened to "Disturbed", and I was speechless. Loved it, and still love it. I've probably played it 100 times since then. It's really a whole new song, somehow, even though the words and the melody are the same. It is absolutely brilliant. Captures the feel of both head-banging rock, and the gentleness of the 60's generation.

I'm with you - probably the best remake of all time! "

" If it didn't bother you enough at the time to make a report to the authorities, who could actually do something about it, if true, then, for all intents and purposes, it did not happen. We will never know what actually did or did not happen and this, rightly or wrongly, casts a pall over Kavanaugh's reputation. There will always be a footnote in his file in history. My guess is that this did not happen, that the dems are flailing around, as usual, throwing whatever they can to see what they can make stick. This is such a predictable event that it has no, zero, credibility - which, if the gal is actually correct, does her a disservice - but not as much as waiting 3.5 decades to squawk. Add US 2.00 and you get a 4.6 ml medium vial, or twice as much as a small vial for just two extra dollars.
Add US 4.00 and you get a 9.2 ml large vial, or four times the amount of a small vial.

So practically speaking, after the first vial every 2.3ml is just two bucks.

Of course, some of us are old enough to recall when entry fees for a lot of local races were <$10 (which usually included a t-shirt), long before any chipped number tags for participants, mile split logging and photographing of practically everyone. Back then (1970s through late 1980s) I often joined up for the first few miles in an event just to "pace" a friend who'd asked, cutting out long before the finish line area. Thinking back on those years of racing, I honestly don't recall even hearing of someone who'd been accused of cheating on a race's course. Though, that might well have been due to participating almost exclusively in point-A-to-B runs, instead of out-and-back routes. Gets pretty tough to get ahead without covering the course when it's a point-A-to-B route, unless you hop a ride in a car or bike.

Last year, this guy apparently ran track-based marathon distance in 2hrs 25sec. More than a minute faster, though it wasn't validated/approved as a record-setting finish.

One thing that's appalling, as a (former) runner, is finding out just how difficult a minute here and there can be to eke out of a given race. Forty years ago, there were folks doing 2:15 marathons. To be nearly hitting 2hrs flat is astonishing, at least to me. Didn't imagine I'd be seeing that in my lifetime, actually. Might well not, since that remaining 1min 38sec is a terribly long time, even at marathon distance. That seemingly small amount of added quickness might not be possible, for this guy. Time will tell.

Might well be true. If as claimed, the folks involved had been drinking, apparently, though it's unclear if that means drinking=drunk.

Might well not be true. To damage the credibility and sink the nomination, possibly. Even if not, a sex-oriented accusation can be fairly damaging, at least ugly and smearing.

The other similar accusation made in a nomination to the Court, of course, is the Anita Hill accusations of then-nominee Justice Thomas. Adults, both, one worked for the other, and the accusation was made within a couple years of the time period in question. As compared to teens at a party, most (?) of whom apparently had been drinking.

That's not much of an issue to me. Ninety-nine percent of the time my "off" cell phone is sitting on the shelf where I keep it. On those few times I go out, I often don't take it, I often don't bother to turn it on, and I don't go places where my privacy or security is a concern. I've never entered any financial data on my phone nor any "personal" data.

Does it allow "someone" to track me even if turned off? Maybe, but again I don't think my wandering through Publix market or getting a haircut is much of a national secret. In a nutshell, all my phone reveals about me is I don't go may places (or at least it doesn't) and none of those places are very interesting. If someone in a darkened room is tracking me, I'd bet they quickly get bored and move on to someone else. "

" This just stinks of the typical Democrat strategy, they tried it with Trump and the pattern continues.

It was High School, High School so come one, let's get real. Who can recall with any clarity of something that allegedly happened 35 years ago. Seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Of course, they are going to use the old "suppressed memory" thing, like the woman has some sort of PTSD disorder and is suddenly recalling something now that he is up for a Supreme Court seat. The timing of this is very suspicious, but that is how the enemies of Trump roll, they will stop at nothing, even to the point of making up something or making something that may have happened into a real event and now somehow relevant to his appointment to the Supreme Court.

I don't believe any of it to be true in the sense Kavanaugh did something wildy inappropriate, if he did then he did and yes, he should come clean on it, but the timing of this just reeks of Democrats using anything to deny him a confirmation. "

" Kavanaugh faces uncertain future after woman accuser breaks silence

I have so many issues with this. And these are not in order of importance (I just do not want to see that definition again LOL). The first is to know if the Dem's had this information weeks ago and are now releasing it. That is a political stunt. If they thought it was important, they should have done it day one.

Secondly, this was like 35 years ago and in high school and she said they were both drunk (from what I read). I remember vaguely parties I was drunk at in HS 35 years ago as well. And I would hate for someone to bring something up that all of the witnesses memories are old now and were most likely impiared at the time. This is a lot different than the Clarence Thomas debacle.

Thirdly, if, and only two people know this, Kavanaugh and the lady, Kavanaugh did what was accused he should remove himself. I did not say he should remove himself beacuase of the accusation. If it is true, he should at least do what is right.

Only two peopel know what happened. It should not have been brought up in this manner. Shame on the dems for this. "

" UPDATE

The demonstration was a success. I had four groups of Scouts and they were the best, attentive and really wanting to learn some technique. I had some modern pressure flaking tools and some flint pieces for them to work with and when it was time, they eagerly joined in. Even some of the adult Leaders tried their hand at the technique.

I also showed them how an arrow point was attached to a shaft and also had a photo of a bone vertebrae from some animal that had a triangle flint point embedded in it. An extremely rare thing, but it illustrated that even though these were stone points, they were still effective.

The boys all earned their points for the participation, and many of them did not want to leave to go to their next place, they wanted to continue. It was a great success, and I'm certain I will be asked to demonstrate it again. "

That is almost impossible for someone to get away with and claim they won the marathon. Rosie Ruiz did it in the Boston Marathon in 1980. And back then the female runners were not really being followed on camera like they are today. The top female runners now are televised just like the men. The Berlin Marathon was televised and I watched the end of it.

The top tier runners would never be able to do that.

Now, if we are talking about the average runner or above average runner but not in the top 5 percent. It is possible. But I honestly have never seen anyone "cheat". I have seen folks cut the curbs which is technically going off the course and is a disqualifier.

For example, I am doing the Savannah and San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathons in Nov and Dec. You cannot pick up your runners packet with the race number and chip until the day before and you have to be in person. You can give the chip to someone else and have them run. With all of this technology now, someone will know you did that because of this reason: they have photographers all over the course. They are selling pics of you. At the end of the race, you can put your bib number in and all of the images taken of you will show up (in theory). They of course have a watermark so you can't get them for free LOL, but that is another topic.

OK, so you give your bib number and chip to someone else. Now, you tell all of your family, friends, and acquaitances that you ran the marathon. They go onto the web site and never see a pic of you with that bib number.

It happens, but not frequently. "

My house is the only one without power; sweetgum tree blew down yanking the wires off the transformer.

The Neuse River is at the top of its banks but no serious flooding like Matthew, quite a few low spots flooded but I have not seen any houses flooded. The river has not crested yet but there is still light rain falling.

Funny thing, I took down the hummingbird feeder Thursday to keep it from blowing away, I look outside Friday morning and one of the little hummers was sitting patiently waiting for the feeder to be replaced.
Glad to hear you are doing well!

Did you hurry and put the hummingbird feeder back up? They remember your feeder year to year, and others in the area. They are such little characters! "

I never thought anyone would be able to remake this song better than the original. This would be my pick as well. "

" It will be interesting to see if they can shut 8chan down. There is some pretty disgusting stuff on 8chan that no one has tried to shut down (or maybe they have but were unsuccessful) and I can see nothing Q has posted that is breaking any ROEs on any of these sites. He infers that revolution may be coming but who doesn't infer that? This banning stuff, to me, is an indication that the elites are taking him/her/them seriously.

Here is the disclaimer when entering 8chan, take it seriously because there is more depravity out there than many realize and the only thing they don't allow is copyright infringement (though they claim otherwise), as near as I can tell. I don't recommend it. If the elites can force a ban of Q there then you will know Q is the real deal.

I did actually! Although I missed seeing what was up every day, it was kinda nice being away from technology for a while.
Solo had a blast playing with his friends and we even met up with one of his sisters from another litter.
