I do not primarily buy anything just because it is officially endorsed by an athlete or used by an athlete. Quality pieces of athletic gear for the average athlete can be bought from many vendors and they do not have to be top of the line. I was a pretty good baseball player growing up. I doubt my performance would have been enhanced by using a glove used by the best outfielder in MLB at the time.

I do look to see what the elite runners wear as a reference point in my buying decisions. I have not purchase Nike in the past because the shoes did not fit me well. The newer model of the Peagasus has a larger toe box and less padding around the heel. They improved the lacing system.

The ironic thing is, the changes Saucony made to my favorite shoe I have been using for 4 years now made me leave for Nike. Yet, the changes that Nike made to the Pegasus has made some people upset and they might be opting for other choices now. It purely comes down to comfort.

My cold weather/rain jacket I use is by Brooks. I got that one for two reasons: market research and the fact that Des Linden wore it while running the Boston Marathon 2 years ago when the weather was ridiculously cold, windy, and raining. It was a toss-up between three jackets. So, I figured if it worked well enough in those bad conditions it was fine for me

Back to Nike: they are not going away. They know "their" market and also know perfectly well what their business decisions mean short and long term. Nike stock is up 10 bucks from a year ago. They are only a dollar off their high for the year. Stock prices are not always a true indicator of how well a business is doing. The only reason I check Nike stock periodically is that when this flap started months ago, many folks have said that Nike doomed itself and the stock would go down.

Evidently, since almost no one here likes Nike products, now or in the past, then PDF members are not a demographic that Nike is worried about. My MIL said she is boycotting Nike. I do not think that boycotting a product you have never used really has an affect "

Not true I went to the Darkside last week and got myself a pair of Pegasus Turbo 2's and they are the sweetest shoe I have had in a while. Sorry, but I have to go with what works for me when I do 14-16 mile runs total up to 70 miles a week.

Here is the reason why I switched to Nike (at least for now). And they were not my first choice at all

1: I always loved New Balance. My go to shoes since I ran X-country in college. But ya know what they did, they messed with my favorite series of shoes or they discontinued my favorite pair of shoes over the years. So, I switched to.....
2:......Brooks. See "1" above. So I switched to...........
3........Saucony Kinvara series of shoes. And they worked well, even when they went from Kinvara 6, 7, 8, and 9. But ya know what....this year, the Kinvara 10's made a drastic change which I do not like. So I switched to.....
4.....Nike. The Pegasus Turbo 2's are just perfect for me right now.

Nike does give 10 percent off for Military personnel, veterans, and their families. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

And many adults do wear Nike. Not for fashion but for function (They have one of the best long distance road racing shoes right now. My trail shoes are still Hoka One One

I think it can go both ways. Honestly, I think it helps "Bone Spurs" Trump right now more than it hurts him. In the long run, people like AOC are frightening because they can start a wave of socialism that we have not seen in this country in a long time. And by that I mean "overt" socialism, not the hidden type used by the current Democratic Party. "

His angst against the Democratic Party and the words he chose (treason) are most likely because of his fondness for President Lincoln and the Union which he fought for. He considered seccesion a treasoness act.

I saw this post years ago on FB and did some research on it. The funny thing is that many of my friends and acquaintances do not consider it was a treasonous act to want to secede from the USA. Yet, they did not bother to research the possible motivations behind the inscription. They just hear Democrat and treason and assume they would agree with Mr Grigsby. They most likely would not. "

Sooo is our prison population over populated by people that have committed no crimes other than the color of their skin or hold views unacceptable to government. I've known a lot of people and have read of people going to jail. I know of no one that hasn't earned it.
I really do want to understand what the underlying point being made is as to the USA prison population.
My take on this is that the US is putting people in jail when there are better solutions. Drugs should be legalized and that would take care of most of the prison population. Also, though not close to what the Soviet Union did (and other Communists Bloc nations did), there is a lot of railroading in the US. HAs always been like that.

Read "The Innocent Man" by Joh Grisham if you want a good example of how LE can railroad people for the sake of closing a case. "

So, that is a far cry from stomping and tromping on it LOL. Looks like they dropped it to do a photo op, Rapinoe appears to accidentally slightly kick it while moving forward.

Yup, a total disgrace hee hee. I see people make a US Flag cake then cut it up and eat it. I don't get my panties in a wad over that.

When did that happen? Got a video of it?

In the background of the video, ccw9mm posted you can also clearly see members of the USWNT holding up the flag as well. So they dropped the flag during a celebration for a photo..big deal. That is nothing compared to a person in a position of power (like possibly a President) that breaks his oath about defending the Constitution while also advocating for infringements on the 2A like wanting bans for certain items and Red Flag laws..just saying. I think people get their britches in a wad when a public figure mentions what their thoughts are. I honestly believe that for some folks they feel it is not fair since the public figures have a louder voice than they do. My reply to that is "boo hoo". Life is not fair and it is true that public figures get their message out louder than most regular citizens. It has been like that for a long time and always will since social media and the interwebs facilitate this type of dialogue.

My answer to my MIL, who vented really loud on FB about the USWNT on FB, was to grow up, dang you are in your 80's Mom . Start writing letters or get a YouTube channel if you want to vent more publicly. How many of us would not be pleased if our personal thoughts and feelings were published on CNN or FOX news so we could get our message across? It is not unfair that Rapinoe can express her feelings more so than others, it is just a fact of life. "

The whole thing on Rapinoe, was hype by the Liberal media, and other than she disrespected the flag of the country she was supposed to be playing for ..... not Trump..... who cares what she thinks about anything. Play the game, and shut up. As a coach , 30 yrs, if I had a player that got cocky and said the team couldn't win without them ... I benched them... and let them watch the team win without them. I would have kicked her off the team ...... she disrespected who she was playing for ... .... the USA as a whole.... of all political views. . I have kicked off players .... for "attitude" .... she would be at the top of my list... it is not about any "1" player... it's a team effort. If she thinks she can win it on her own, sit the other 10 players down, and let her try.

I once had a team ... 16 players at a key game (had 18 on roster) ..... for some reason some of them thought they could not beat this other team ... so weren't going to try. Despite , our team had the advantage. As they were playing ..... they showed it on the field, no effort at all .... and so I started pulling players..... Ref said we needed the other players. Told the ref we had who we wanted on the field. We had to start with 9, and continue with 8, we had 8 on the field .. end of discussion. The 8 played with effort, as a team, they had those in the way ... out of the way ..... and we won the game. Looked at the other 8, and told them ... if they are going to give up before the game starts.... they better think about if they wanted to play on the team or not, because if they ever did that again ... I could easily replace all of them.

Point being, play the game .... put out the best effort you can ... and leave everything else off the field.
Maybe I missed it, but when did Rapinoe indicate that the team can't win without her. In fact, she was benched for the semifinal game because of a hamstring injury. It was a minor problem but since the USWNT has such a deep bench, thay sat her figuring they would win anyway. From the sidelines it looked ike she was giving her team great support. "

Yes, you do run up the scores to make sure it helps you in a tie breaker. If this was the last game before the final 16, and they were winning, then running up the score would be wrong. This is not Little League.

2: I do not like crazy or disrespectful celebrations. I think they wrong on all levels.

3: Rapinoe was answering a reporters question about attending the WH. She back tracked a little bit about the original language she used, but she stuck to her guns. "

This forum is for discussing current events that are in the news that are non-political and not related to firearms or self-defense. Local news stories, national/international news, celebrity death announcements, and even Hollyweird "news" stories can be posted in this forum.

" Why one American veteran is rooting for the Netherlands — for one day — at the Women’s World Cup

It takes a lot for an American serviceman who has seen action in Afghanistan to root against the United States at anything, but Brandon Bloodworth has the best excuse in the world. Or, in this case, in the Women’s World Cup.

“I am just a man trying to support his wife,” Bloodworth, 24, told me in a telephone conversation on Thursday. “Happy wife, happy life.”

A former track athlete at Long Beach State, Bloodworth is married to standout Netherlands defender Dominique Bloodworth (née Janssen), who will be tasked with stifling the high-powered American attack led by Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe in Sunday’s final.

For the U.S., it is a chance to win a second straight title. For the Dutch, it is the opportunity to continue the rapid rise of a program that is competing in women’s soccer’s premier tournament for only the second time. For Bloodworth, it is both the perfect scenario, and a gut-wrenching one.

Lots of folks in sensitive positions (or not) do not seem to care and/or realize the importance of security anymore. The amount of OPSEC that is out there to the general public is amazing. I have talked to soldiers, marines, airman and civ contractors over the years in casual conversation and can get much information out of them.

A nephew of mine has been deployed several times and the amount of information he sends over FB is just ridiculous. And it is lots of people that do this. The enemy does not need satellites, FB and Google Maps/Earth and a decent hacker for email accounts is all they need. And of course, on topic, for people to turn off sharing data when using fitness devices. "

The Pentagon, which once encouraged the use of Fitbits, is telling servicemen to use the privacy settings on their devices, but this breach goes far beyond the U.S. military to include intelligence officers and aid workers in dangerous locations.

Nike cancels shoe featuring early version of American flag

Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured an old version of the American flag," Nike said in a statement to CNN Business.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that the athletic-wear company delivered the sneakers to retailers, but asked stores to return them to Nike after the company received a complaint from former NFL star Colin Kaepernick. The Journal indicated Kaepernick said he and others found the shoe offensive.

This week, at the age of 103, Ms. Hawkins returned to the track to run the 50- and 100-meter dash races in the National Senior Games in Albuquerque. She is believed to be the oldest woman to formally compete on an American track, according to the organization,

Siam created the thread Florida woman arrested after turning in estranged husband's gun a day after he tried to run her over.
" Well, all I can say is this:

1. One should not have guns taken from them by anyone (wife, gubermint) until they are convicted of something and serving time in jail. Being accused of domestic assault and not yet convicted, means no one should be taking your stuff. Guy might be a dirt bag, who knows. We need to let the courts figure it out.

2. IMO she should be thrown in jail from the information in the article. She broke into his house/apartment.

Florida woman arrested after turning in estranged husband's gun a day after he tried to run her over

A Florida woman was reportedly arrested after taking firearms from her estranged husband’s home to turn in to police, a day after he allegedly tried to run over her.

Courtney Irby, 32, was arrested last Saturday and charged with one count of armed burglary after an arrest affidavit said she showed up to the Lakeland Police Department station with guns belonging to her husband, Joseph Irby, just one day after he was arrested on a domestic battery charge, WKMG reported.

According to police, Irby admitted to entering her husband’s apartment without permission and taking the guns to the station over fears he “wasn’t going to turn them in” himself.

Siam created the thread How many years in jail would Batman get under New York law?.
" This could have gone into the Law Enforcement sub-forum but I thought Off Topic and humor would be best. The guy that does these videos is hillarious. He has done videos on things like how much money in lawsuits would Willy Wonka need to pay in Civil Damages and how many years in jail how would serve for crimes committed in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". He did an analysis of how accurate "My Cousin Vinny" is vis a vis courtroom accuracy. He also did one for the Star Trek Next Generation episode "Measure of a Man".

In this video he uses New York law (since Gotham City is really kinda like NYC) to explain how many years in jail the Joker and Batman would get. Not counting the hacking charges, Batman would get almost 200 years in jail.

Siam created the thread We had to cut our trip to Houston short: AC went out in our house.
" First, thanks to all with the recommendations on where to eat in Houston. Unfortunately, we had to cut our vacation short. I can monitor our home while we are away and our AC went out. We have two cats in the house and a person that was going to check on them every couple of days.

Anyway, we ended up driving back last night.

I know lots of folks do not like the idea of having anything tied to the internet, but sometimes it is a good thing. Knowing if your AC is out in the summer or if the heating goes out in the winter is an important thing.

Anyway, we did make it to the Space Center in Houston (worth the trip), the Aquarium in Houston (was a waste of time and money), and ate at the Lighthouse Buffet at Kemah Boardwalk (AWESOME buffet!!!!) We also got to see the Museum of Fine Arts nd they had a Van Gogh exhibit which was really cool. The Museum of Natural Science was a good visit as well.

Overall, not bad for 2 days. Except for the Aquarium, it was fun. We will go back in July for a soccer game, Real Madrid is playing and we will take in an Astros game. "

Siam created the thread Keep your Situational Awareness and still listen to music, phone, podcast.
" I put this in the General Firearms section instead of off-topic because it has more to do with SA and self-defense than running

The spouse and I went to our local running store to get some new shoes for her and shorts for me. I have been curious about how well Bone Conductive Headphones work and they had a setup to try them out. I was honestly blown away by the quality and fidelity of the sound that you could hear.

Not only was it a great sound, you can hear all of the sounds around you since they do not go in your ears but are pressed against your bone. Point is, if you have a need or want to listen to music, your phone, podcasts, whatever, and want to make sure you can hear the sounds around you, this might be an option.

Personally, I like to blast my music into my ears so for me, not a need. But lots of folks like to run, walk the dog, play golf while having ear buds in but want to be able to hear what is around them.

Just food for thought.

Siam created the thread What is your litmus test for the RTKBA's?.
" Someone asked me this once in another thread which has definitely gone off topic.

You can't discriminate between WMD and bump stocks? Perhaps therein lies the problem.
This was my answer to that (edited for this thread)

And to answer your question about distinguishing between WMD's and bump stocks..nope, I do not really see a difference and here is why. Quite simply, anyone sitting in the Presidents office will decide what they think is appropriate for me to own, buy, carry for my personal defense. If some POTUS thinks bump stocks should be banned, which is at the total end of the spectrum from WMD's...what stops such a person from declaring anything in the middle deemed necessary to be banned.
That IS the problem when we think it is OK for a person or government to decide what a person wants. There is enough stuff in a Walmart or Home Depot where someone can buy stuff and design a weapon that can cause mass destruction. It might not fit the definition of WMD, but being able to make something to kill 20 people or more is definitely more of a threat than a potential use of a bump stock..

What is your personal litmus test of what should be banned under law and what you consider NOT an infringement. "

Siam created the thread The human body is amazing: runner shooting for sub 2 hour marathon.
" Kipchoge targets London for attempt at sub 2-hour marathon

Just to put this in perspective, this guy holds the world record right now on a certified course/race 2 hr 1 min 39 sec (4 min 38 sec per mile). He attempted to run sub 2 hours a couple of years ago with pacers, a flat track and no wind. And missed it by 25 seconds.

To run sub 2 hours, one would need to basically be sprinting a 100 yard dash in just a tad under 16 seconds continuously for 26.2 miles.

Training is one thing, but genetics obviously a major factor here

I am hoping to run sub 3 hours in Nov or Dec this year and I would be happy with that being 55 years old "

Siam created the thread Felon and GCA 1968: Actress cries as she pleads guilty in college admissions scandal.
" Actress Felicity Huffman cries as she pleads guilty in college admissions scandal

1: This is the correct forum, (not current events) because it is about gun rights
2: This is not about a Hollywood star that might or not own firearms or her thoughts about them, it is about being a felon and no longer having the right to bear arms.

When she appeared in court in Boston, prosecutors recommended a sentence of four months prison time for the "Desperate Housewives" TV star for her role in the college admissions scandal. They also suggested a $20,000 fine and 12 months of supervised release for the charge, which is a felony.
Unless one has not been following the news, a bunch of rich folks basically paid a guy to get their kids into "prestigious" colleges. They are now being held accountable, which they should be. They will also have been convicted of a felony or plead guilty to a felony which means that they can no longer purchase or own firearms.

This a great example of why the Gun Control Act of 1968 needs to be repealed.

Totally stupid that these folks cannot bear arms after they serve their sentences. "

Siam created the thread Prayers for my Sister, her husband and family.

He went nuts over the weekend and tried to kill himself. When the LE showed up he wanted the LE to shoot him. He is currently in a physiatrist facility being evaluated.

My sister has been totally stressed in the last 5 years with his declining health and his unwillingness to help himself. Don't get me wrong, he has been a great husband and father to his kids. I think at this point in his life he realized HE screwed up and now wants to end it.

My concern and prayers for him are that the idiots in the psych ward will believe him when he says he is OK and they let him go home and he will kill himself.

Prayers requested and thanks for your time "

Odds that she was watching that episode at the same time I was watching my show comes to 1:1872 (78 episodes of Justified, 24 for HW:FF).

That is not counting that she was actually watching Justified at all at the same time which would obviously make it even less probable.

Sports teams dump Kate Smith's 'God Bless America' because of her racist songs

Just to be clear, nobody is not stopping playing "God Bless America", they are just not using her rendition.

"We have recently become aware that several songs performed by Kate Smith contain offensive lyrics that do not reflect our values as an organization," the Flyers said in a statement to CNN.
"As we continue to look into this serious matter, we are removing Kate Smith's recording of 'God Bless America' from our library and covering up the statue that stands outside of our arena."
The Yankees said the team also was no longer playing Smith's iconic 1939 version of the song because she sang at least two songs during the 1930s that are now considered racist.
"Why Darkies are Born"

"Someone had to pick the cotton,
Someone had to plant the corn,
Someone had to slave and be able to sing,
That's why darkies were born"
Some have said when she sang the songs it was satire and was to oppose racism, others take a view she thought it was funny. I have no clue.

Siam created the thread Canadian police are looking for the suspect that shot a woman with a crossbow.
" Canadian police are looking for the suspect who posed as a deliveryman and shot a woman with a crossbow

I thought this was new. It is an updated story from Nov 2018. A guy shows up and shoots her with a crossbow. The noteworthy thing is that the Canadian police are now releasing the video to have people help identify the BG. This happened 5 months ago.

I get it that the police might keep info away from the public so as not to spook the BG. But after 5 months I wonder how useful this will be.

A woman will be in recovery for the rest of her life after someone posing as a delivery person shot her point-blank with a crossbow.

The attack, which is being investigated as an attempted murder, occurred in November in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This week, police released video footage of the suspect at the victim's door in the hope that the person could be identified.
Emergency services responding to a Mississauga residence on November 7, found a 44-year-old woman suffering from life-threatening injuries and transported her to a hospital, police said in a news release Monday.
Investigators have since determined the victim answered her front door and was met with a person holding a large box. After a brief conversation, the suspect shot the woman in the chest using a crossbow that was concealed in the box. The suspect then fled to a dark-colored pickup truck, authorities said.

" A gun in a diaper bag went off, injuring dad and daughter. Now the dad has died

Prayers for the family. A very sad day, and one that is preventable. Always be aware of where your firearm is. I am glad the baby will be OK.

A man who accidentally shot himself while changing his daughter's diaper in a vehicle in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, has died, police said.

Timothy Roshun Smith was shot in the leg and chest, and his daughter's leg was injured, when a loaded gun in a diaper bag went off Saturday outside a Chuck E Cheese's.
The 22-year-old man died Monday, said Capt. Johnny Evans of the Vestavia Hills Police Department. The girl is expected to make a full recovery, Evans said.
Smith was in the back seat of a vehicle Saturday outside the pizza restaurant, changing the girl's diaper. The gun went off as he picked up or reached inside a diaper bag on the floorboard, Evans said after the incident.
After the gun went off, the bullet traveled through Smith's leg and then the child's leg before lodging in the man's chest, Evans said.

Chaos at Walmart as woman performs karate, son exposes himself, dog steals food

Chaos descended on a Wisconsin Walmart store Wednesday night after a karate-performing mother, her naked son, and their belligerent dog shoplifted and ran amok in the store.
After being told to leave the store, the woman began showing off her karate moves in the parking lot to fend off police officers.

The dog tried to flee the crime scene, albeit unsuccessfully, with a box of Jiffy Cornbread Muffin Mix in his mouth.

After a brief fight with the officers, Smith was arrested. As a last-ditch attempt, she tried to kick a window out of a police car.

Her raucous son, meanwhile, was getting fully naked and began exposing himself to other customers at the store. He then tried to cover himself with new clothes from the store without intending to pay for them, police said.

Siam created the thread Funny:Interesting law/regulation for Yosemite Park.
" I was watching a rock climbing documentary and they brought up an interesting thing.

One thing I never considered is that some solo/free climbers climb with a BASE parachute in case they fall. So, if you have a legal permit to climb El Capitan but fall and deploy your chute, then you broke the law because BASE jumping without a permit is illegal. If landed without a parachute and got killed he would be OK legally

Reminds me of the dialogue in Judge Dredd:

Judge Dredd: And you haven't even been out of jail for 24 hours. He's habitual, Hershey. An automatic five year sentence. How do you plead?
Herman Ferguson: Not guilty?
Judge Dredd: I knew you'd say that.
Ferguson: Five years?! No! No! I had no choice! They were killing each other in there.
Judge Dredd: You could have gone out the window.
Ferguson: Forty floors? It would have been suicide!
Judge Dredd: Maybe, but it's legal.

Siam created the thread Boys rescued from Thai cave were sedated with ketamine. Interesting article.
" This is the CNN article
Boys rescued from Thai cave were sedated with ketamine

According to details of the rescue released in a medical journal Thursday, the boys were given unspecified doses of ketamine, also known as party drug Special K, by the rescue divers as they were taken out of Tham Luang cave.
Reports at the time had suggested that the children, who had been trapped for two weeks, were sedated during the operation, but officials gave few details.
"We had to use the means that could keep the children not to be panicky while we were carrying them out," Thai Navy SEAL commander Rear Adm. Arpakorn Yookongkaew told CNN shortly after the rescue. "Most importantly, they are alive and safe."
The link in the article is for the New England Journal of Medicine writeup. In case you do not subscribe to NEJM here are some interesting things about the rescue and the preplanning for it from a medical POV.

The Tham Luang cave rescue mission to save 12 boys and their soccer coach1,2 provided an important experience base for the prehospital care of patients with hypothermia who had been anesthetized before their arrival at the field hospital. With impending monsoon rains and concerns about falling oxygen levels in the cave, a plan to urgently extricate the patients was developed. The plan involved the use of ketamine-based anesthesia and a positive-pressure full-face mask (supplying 80% oxygen); the boys were swum out of the cave wearing poorly fitting wet suits in cold water.
The after-action review on day 1 identified hypothermia and inefficient team coordination as the critical components, and the Thailand Cave Rescue Protocol, which addressed airway, breathing, circulation, and hypothermia management (ABC+H), was developed. Resuscitation roles (ABC) were assigned to an anesthesiologist, respirologist, and pediatric cardiologist, respectively. The hypothermia management was formalized and assigned to the anesthesiologist. The accuracy of core temperature measurement was improved with the use of tympanic membrane temperature monitoring, which was performed every 5 minutes until a temperature of 35.0°C was observed for at least four readings. Ketamine, a vasoconstrictor that impairs shivering, is associated with smaller drops in core temperature and is a good choice for patients at risk for hypothermia.

" Assuming everything is true in the article, the man should be left alone. You do not send someone back to jail if you were the one that let him out.

A man walked out of prison 13 years ago thinking he was free. The feds say he owes 16 months

Demetrius Anderson walked out of a Connecticut state prison in 2006 thinking he was ready to leave behind his criminal past and build a new life as an upstanding citizen.

The Philadelphia native stayed in Connecticut and stayed out of trouble. He has two jobs, lives in a nice apartment and belongs to a church.
But last week, eight US Marshals came to his home. He was certain they were after the wrong person. He hadn't committed a crime in more than 13 years. They insisted he come with them to court because he still had a 16-month federal sentence to serve for crimes he committed in Philadelphia.
Anderson thought his state sentence was concurrent to his federal one. And when he got out of prison early, there were no federal officials to transfer him to another facility.
He went out and got a job, reported to his parole officer, and lived a crime-free life.
But during an internal audit, federal marshals reportedly discovered Anderson never served prison time for his federal charge. They asked a Pennsylvania judge to issue a warrant for his detention.

Siam created the thread Unsung hero of World War II: Jacques Stosskopf.
" Most people, even people in France might not know if this man. I ran across his name while researching about WWII. I can't imagine the pain and suffering he and his family went through.

Jacques Stosskopf was a Frenchman who became a collaborator with the Germans. Or so it seemed. He built up trust with the Germans and was achieved the posting of deputy director of naval construction at the German-held Lorient U-boat arsenal. In this role he was despised and hated by the workers there. Only a handful of people in the resistance knew that he was providing valuable information to the allies on U-boat operations.

Imagine, living a lie and being hated while risking your life and being loyal to your country the whole time.

He was eventually found out, tortured and executed.

Siam created the thread Republicans’ day of reckoning on Trump is coming.
" An interesting opinion piece from FOX

Republicans’ day of reckoning on Trump is coming

Twelve Senate Republicans stopped Donald Trump from invoking a national emergency to pay for a wall on the southern border last Friday…three times as many senators than needed to pass it. That’s the good news. The bad news? Even more Republicans will be needed to override Trump’s veto. What’s worse is the fact that if more Republicans don’t join Democrats in overriding this veto they will provide Trump even more power when he has a history of not acting in the best interest of our country.
Now, it is even more important to override Trump’s veto in light of his comments last week, about the use of force at his disposal. He said in an interview with Breitbart “I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump — I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough — until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad.”

" At least 49 dead in 'terrorist' shootings at 2 New Zealand mosques, 4 nabbed, IEDs found

One person has been charged in connection with a “well-planned” terrorist attack that killed 49 people and injured dozens more in two mosques in New Zealand on Friday, authorities said.

The New Zealand police said four people -- three men and one woman -- were in custody in connection with the attack. Investigators later defused a number of improvised explosive devices that were found inside vehicles. Prime Minister Jacinda Arden described the suspects as one principal, two associates and one person not directly connected to the attacks. She said the suspects were not on any security watch lists.
Terrorism conducted by any group against another group is always wrong.

Prayers to the families and victims. "

Sex outside of marriage may soon be legal in Utah

“What is legally is often far below what is morally right,” said state Republican Rep. Kevin Stratton, who objected to the bill. “And I recognize our laws are not strong enough to rule an immoral people.”
This is the part that really surpised me. I assumed that this law was an anachronism, and had been on the books for 100 year or more.

Sex between those unmarried was criminalized in 1973. The bill that passed Tuesday was part of the legislature’s efforts to clean up its criminal code, removing unenforceable laws from the books, state Republican Rep. Paul Ray told FOX13.

Florida man mistakenly arrested in sex spa case plans to sue sheriff, says arrest upended his life

A husband and father of two is working to clear his name after he was erroneously arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into a widespread sex trafficking ring at several massage parlors in South Florida.
Investigators initially connected him to the case via a blue, four-door Porsche that was parked near the spa, TCPalm reported.
Authorities said the blue Porsche actually belonged to a woman with the same last name and was also co-registered to a man not named Patel.
While searching driver's license photos of men named Patel in Martin County, investigators found Sandipkumar Patel. They said his license photo matched the look of a man seen on video the police had shot at the spa.

HOA threatens resident with fine after car leaves unusual shape in snow

A homeowner’s association (HOA) in Tennessee threatened to fine a resident $100 after her car left a phallix-shaped image in the condo’s parking lot following a light dusting of snow, a report said Tuesday.
The board claimed to have photographic evidence sent in by a resident who was concerned about the wellbeing of children, the outlet reported. The photo it sent left Kathryn in stitches: a snowy parking space with a blob of cleared asphalt that could be construed as male genatalia.
NOTE: I actually had to EDIT this post because a word in the article I quoted is censored.....really I find it ironic considering the topic of the article LOL "

Siam created the thread Things I never knew about "Uncle Fester" from "The Addams Family".
" I was reading about Charlie Chaplin last night and dovetailed into reading about the actor that played the kid in the movie "The Kid". I would have never guessed it was Uncle Fester! I guess it just flew under my radar. So I read about Jackie Coogan. Pretty interesting.

The law they made to protect child actors assets from being stolen by the parents is named after him (Coogan Bill).

He volunteered to be a glider pilot during WW II. Not only was that dangerous, he was assigned to the Burma campaign. Thank you sir for your service and RIP.

And who would have thought that he was married to Betty Grable!

So there you have it, a brief history about Uncle Fester

Siam created the thread Chicago police blast Jussie Smollett 'phony attack': 'Bogus police reports cause real harm'.

Chicago police blast Jussie Smollett 'phony attack': 'Bogus police reports cause real harm'

"I'm left hanging my head and asking why," a visibly upset Johnson told reporters. "Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations? How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol...how can an individual who has been embraced by the city of Chicago turn around and slap everyone in this city by making this false claim?"
Smollett told police he was attacked by two masked men as he was walking home from a Subway sandwich shop at around 2 a.m on Jan. 29. The actor, who is black and gay, said the masked men beat him, made derogatory comments and yelled "This is MAGA country" — an apparent reference to President Donald Trump's campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again" — before fleeing.
Johnson said police found the "check that [Smollett] used to pay [two brothers]" to fake the beating, adding he paid them $3,500 "for the two of them in total, and then $500 upon return."

South Carolina teacher sees student, 7, riding bike on highway, helps him save dad

Keller Sutherland was driving home when she noticed other cars zipping past a young boy riding a bike down U.S. 25, the teacher said in a video posted to the Greenville County School’s Facebook. She recognized the boy as Cameron, a 7-year-old former student. She immediately turned her car around and asked the boy what was going on.
Cameron told her that his diabetic father had collapsed at his house. He said he first tried to call 911, but he didn’t know the passcode to his father’s locked cell phone. He then tried the neighbors, but no one was home. His last recourse was to pedal five miles to his grandmother’s house.
I thought all cell phones were require to be able to dial 911, even if the phone is locked. I also thought that all cell phones, even if thier is a plan or not has to be able to dial 911. I wonder if the kid got confused. Either way, he is 7 and did a great job.

I did check our phones and you can dial 911 (or emergency number) even if locked. "

"Next week, we plan to release a resolution that outlines the scope and scale of the Green New Deal,” Ocasio-Cortez said in the letter, adding that the country's near-total economic transformation should take approximately ten years.

Ocasio-Cortez acknowledges her privilege as ‘cisgendered woman’

I did not even know what the heck a "cisgendered" person is.
New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez acknowledged her “privilege” as a “cisgendered woman” during a podcast interview this week, explaining she will never know the “trauma” of being transgender.

“Almost every single person in this country can acknowledge some privilege of some type, you know?” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I’m a cisgendered woman. You know, I will never know the trauma of feeling like I’m not born in the right body. And that, that is a privilege that I have -- no matter how poor my family was when I was born.”
Merriam-Webster defines cisgender as someone “whose gender identity corresponds with the sex the person had or was identified as having at birth.”

Petitioner Saiqa Noreen says the logo “will surely be trampled, kicked and become soiled with mud or even filth.”

Siam created the thread China, trade deals, impact for large and small business's, a free flowing conversation.
" This thread is more about random thoughts and I will include my personal experience with designing and selling things and how prices work. I AM NOT a professional and take that into consideration. When I produce and sell something it is low quantities. Most things I gift.

Folks dog China for cheap prices and products, and those are valid concerns for many things. Then again, you get what you pay for (capitalism at its finest). I have been designing electronic devices for years as a hobby and sell some things at shows and word of mouth.

In the hobby forum I posted about my latest thing (weather station). Just for educational purposes, this is the approx cost break down using a Chinese company for the production of PCB;s.

For 10 PCB's, it is under 40 USD for the product and shipping.

If I use a US company for the same service, it is 5 to 10 times more. Turn aound time is about the same.

Now, imagine, if every circuit board was made in the US that is used in your products how much more the product would cost. I really have no idea. I just wanted folks to know there is a huge difference in price between producing stuff in HK (China) and the US. Tarriffs and taxes would not help IMO because if China was not a competitor, the US companies could charge even more.

Random thoughts and I am not a business nor economic major so I am interested in your thoughts. "
