I know what you mean. Back in the day, distance training, we occasionally did track speed work, but I don't recall other than a handful of times I approached his speeds on a single lap of the track.

At the 2hr marathon time, that's ~4:34/mi average. Or, 68.5sec per 400yd lap (on a track). It's been years, but I seem to recall a 67 quarter, once. Once. But, dang did that hurt.

Was more a 73-78sec guy, for speed training. Far slower than that for normal "race" pace on distance runs (~85-88sec was typical, in a fast race [for me]). Never had the leg length or short-distance speeds that the "rabbits" all had. And he's doing this 26x in a row. It's just not fair!

Another factor is that this guy and many of his competitors (from Kenya) train at 6000-8000ft elevation. At sea level, Kipchoge must feel as though he's got oodles more O2 and "zip" to his cardio.

My main training shoe this year has been the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2. I have two pairs I alternate. Essentially, the Nike Zoom Pegasus Turbo 2 is considered an everyday version of the Vapor 4%. The sole contains the same React and ZoomX foams.

And it is awesome. The 4% wears much faster and many folks use it only for race day. "

Also: "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea."

And the best of all:

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Read the book "Starship Troopers" and disregard the unrelated movie . . . or just watch it as a fun action shoot-'em-up. Worst book to movie adaptation ever.
I would agree with that..but it is one of my "comfort movies". I put it on whenever I am totally bored and doing making something in my workshop. And if you do get beyond the horrible script and acting, I think it does portray the essence of the book.

BTW: The best books to movies was "Fail-Safe" with Henry Fonda and Moby Dick with Gregory Peck. "

For instance when using a credit card the credit card company wants the business to make sure that the owner of the card is the person using it so they require the business to ask for ID. Same thing with a bank and a check which is used for payment. There is nothing forcing the businesses to do this and they often don't, but if they do the customer "must" present his ID or risk not being able to do business there. I believe that if you are asked for ID for an EBT card you must present it or you can be denied service.

Siam is arguing that he doesn't have to present ID to use his card all the while blissfully ignoring that if asked you must present ID. Same with voting if required you must present it, the problem is that our Democrat Party wants illegals to vote so they (and their judges) prevent the ability to insure that only citizens vote.

So Siam has changed the parameters of the debate to coincide with what I assume (everyone has an ass-ume) is his opinion on the subject. My one bit of advice is that if you argue with him long enough he will ignore you, so there is always that.
I love traveling whe I am not signed in so I can read some of you post. Maybe I should do that more often to see how you try to twist and spin things LOl (yes, a nervous tic of course,,but you do amuse me)

Let set some things straight here:

1: I posted that Trump said
You know, if you want to go out and buy groceries, you need identification.
Tha is a DIRECT quote. I refuted it. I used examples and personal experience. What parameter did I change? And "Need" is used as a definition here "circumstances in which something is necessary, or that require some course of action; necessity."
2: Another member posted that
He's correct ..... if you buy it with an EBT card you must provide ID.
which is NOT what BST said. So THAT poster is now changing the parameters (just to remind you the original was that "you NEED identification while shopping for groceries)

then, another person posted this:

3:
In the state of Florida it is a requirement to show ID when using a EBT card......
No proof that it actually a requirement BTW. And I did look up somethings about EBT cards. Typically (and I am no expert) the VISA/MC do not impose tha you need a photo ID. That is something the local merchant MIGHT require.

4: I asked an honest question which the PDF member did not reply to which was (to refresh your memory:....oh heck..I will just put the entire post in so there is no confusion)
Really? We were in Fl and LA over the summer and I do not ever remember anyone asking to see ID. We used credit cards and debit cards at gas stations, Walmart and other locations.

So, are you saying that you have to show ID every time you pump gas when you swipe it at the pump? That would be a real showstopper for large gas stations and vitually wipeout self-checkout. Do you have to show ID to anyone at an ATM?
Now, where on earth or heaven did I change any parameters? In fact, I never set one. BST did with a quote which I replied to.

In a nutshell: I never changed anything. I posted a quote by BST. People replied (who IMO did try to change the parameters) and I retorted.

Specifically to THIS topic: where did I ever change a parameter?

ETA:

You are changing a parameter with this:

while blissfully ignoring that if asked you must present ID
That is not what BST said. This is the original parameter:

You know, if you want to go out and buy groceries, you need identification.
No, you do not. You can use cash. "

A person that is "feeling threatened" would, by all logic, roll up their window and lock the door, not attempt to get out wouldn't you think?

This tells me that the person in the vehicle is likely escalating the discussion to a higher level because they were offended the man had the audacity to point out that they were in a handicapped space.

Then, the boyfriend comes out of the store and sees this white man and his girlfriend talking and realizes that whatever is being said, this guy is upsetting his girlfriend so he must beat his .

The boyfriend then knocks the man to the ground and circles him as if to line up to punt.

The guy on the ground, not wanting his head stomped on, draws and shoots.

Seems to me that the girlfriend in the car and the boyfriend that did the grand slam were the ones that escalated what was seemingly a simple conversation pointing out that they had parked in a reserved spot.
1: People do not always go by logic
2: If a person has a child in the car, and the car is not started and the windows rolled down, a mom or dad might feel it is best to go outside the veh to protect the child
3: Point is: people under stress do illogical things.

and..I have said this a million times

4: People say the man was in fear for his life for many reasons. But they keep forgetting that the shooter stated his own reason: the man was running toward him AFTER he was knocked down. That is not true. The shooter did not characterize the attack or situation correctly. I would have asked this of the shooter "you said he was running toward you when you shot. Would you have shot if he was NOT running toward you. It would be very interesting how he would have answered that. "

By what you post; civilians should ever be charged with anything if they shoot someone because they thought their life was in danger. According to your past posts, all a person has to say is "I was afraid for my life". Then if they shut up in court and plead the 5th...they should get off.

I am a reasonable person, I would not shoot someone because I was acting like a DB and someone pushed me to the ground and was stepping back. That is what happened. "

I think you are missing the point....LOL If a person perceived the threat correctly, and thought their life was in danger, then they might be better off than he is.

One cannot perceive the threat incorrectly and IMO get off of murder or manslaughter.

That opens up an entire case of worms where anyone can say they were afraid for their life and get off. "

The mans own words show that he did not perceive the threat correctly. He said he shot the guy because he was moving toward him. If that was actually true, then IMO he would have got off.
The problem is that the man was NOT moving toward him when he shot him.

Basically in his mind he thought he was still in danger when the video does not support that. "

It's obvious to me and some others I know that Shaft was going to stomp a mud hole in the guy until he went to draw, his gun.' At that point if the shover had went back the way he came to a decent distance then id agree he shouldn't have been shot. He didnt.
The shover instigated the physical violence abdd remained in easy attacking range in the face of a gun. The jury got it wrong and this guy walks on appl
eal, or should.@
Shovers kid was,in the store not right there with him.

My point was many gun owners on various forums started throwing the guy to the wolves right off.

Yet almost any LEO would have shot the guy to the ground, been given a week before saying anything and every excuse under the sun would have been pulled out to avoid a trial.

There is a huge double standard .

Stop bringing up things if you do not want to answer them.

And you brought up two points. One which I countered and you did not retort:

Folks will condem a man who was illegally violently thrown to the ground with every reason to believe he was in danger of serious bodily harm.
And he was interviewed within an hour.

Yet there are people who tried to defend Amber Guyger simply because she was a cop.
Really?! Who are these people defending her actions? Many sympathize with her, but I do not know anyone that condones her actions.

You said this:

Attacked and not running away but staying in six feet of a drawn gun absolutely shows intent to continue the attack.
I countered with :

Would YOU run away if a gun was drawn and your girlfriend or wife and child were right there Regardles of what led to the gun being drawn?
Yet, you skipped over the "regardless" part and explained what YOU would have done or not have done to get yourself in that position. Look up regardless and answer the question. The point is that you are making it sound like by not running away, that showed intent when most people would most likely not run away with a gun drawn while their family is near by. Or did that sail over your head as well?.

You are a poor debater. You like to move the goal posts, and refuse to answer questions DIRECTLY countering yours. "

Let me give you some positive ideas to consider;

Genuine Compromise
I usually do not like parsing quotes because it takes the context out of it. But I just had to for this one. Look at the part in bold. Do you see the problem there?
NO. All laws that have been enacted have been because of a compromise. The WHOLE idea of a compromise for the 2A means that the 2A is watered down. "

Double standard? Absolutely.
How many people are defending Guyger's actions? Almost everyone blames her for the shooting and wanted a conviction. There are of course "a few" that may have thought she would not get convicted. But I think the general consensus is that she should have been guilty.

A black Texas woman was shot and killed by a white Fort Worth police officer who was called to the woman's home for a welfare check, authorities said.
The neighbor who called 911 about the open front door told Fox 4 the police officers didn't announce who they were or knock on the door before searching the outside of the house.

"When I made that non-emergency call, I didn’t say it was a burglary. I didn’t say it was people fighting. I didn’t say anything to make them have a gun. All they needed to do is ring the doorbell,” James Smith said.

“They didn’t park up front, they parked on the side. They sent SRT, which is the special response team. They didn’t have a plainclothes officer to knock on that door,” activist and pastor Kyev Tatum told Fox 4.

And I did actually wake up to watch the run live on You Tube

Now off for my long run "

Very possibly, the jury found the idea of a person being "unarmed" (with man-made tools) at the time equates to non-threat of a degree that would risk crippling injury or death.

An interesting case example for folks engaging in self-defense to ponder. Shows it isn't all cut-and-dried when reading a situation as a threat. Better be darned certain it's a reasonable threat, else imprisonment is possible, even likely.

BST can disagree with FOX, can disagree with a poll, and of course comment on it and point out things he thinks is wrong. But there is a fundamental problem when the POTUS implies that a news service needs to "deliver" for whomever. "

The chord is 7 Inches and the chord with ailerons is 9. The length is 28 inches and the wingspan is 30. Made out of foam and packing tape. The landing was made from scrap aluminum stock I had. Steerable tail wheel.

Control horns made out of old credit and debit cards and control rods from steel wire I straightened.

Weight is 830 grams (almost 2lbs).

It has a six channel receiver and I am putting a camera on it as well.

Basically it costs me 7 bucks out of pocket It is not the prettiest thing but hopefully it flys well. I did some taxiing test with it today and it is dead on straight.

I just need to attach the wing, cover up the wing tips, and make sure the CG is good. Under the nose I will have a sticker that says "1MGG"

Houston police say a group of customers walked into a Popeyes Chicken restaurant Monday night and asked for some sandwiches. But the restaurant chain is all sold out -- news the foursome didn't want to hear.
The group -- two men and two women -- grew angry, and that's when one man pulled out a gun, police said.
The employees ran to the back of the restaurant and the group, who police estimated range in age from 17 to 20 years old, ran out of the restaurant. They jumped into an older model SUV with a woman in the driver seat.
But they weren't finished -- the group pulled through the drive-through lane and threw an empty can through its window.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, will stand trial with four other men on war crimes charges at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba beginning in early 2021, a military judge said Friday.

Air Force Col. W. Shane Cohen set a start date of Jan. 11, 2021, in an order setting motion and evidentiary deadlines. He did so in a case that has been bogged down in pretrial litigation, noting that the trial "will face a host of administrative and logistics challenges."
Mohammad and his co-defendants are charged with crimes including terrorism, hijacking and 2,976 counts of murder for their alleged roles planning and providing logistical support to the Sept. 11 plot. They could get the death penalty if convicted at the military commission, which combines elements of civilian and military law.
Please, they are going to die of old age before that ever happens with our "just" criminal system. "

Looking for advice.

I did tell her that when I run in the morning I see lots of folks with marijuana and I could always pick a joint for her LOL "

Siam created the thread Lovin my new DJI Mavic Air Drone!.
" I have had drones before. Nothing fancy. Simple things that were under 150 bucks. A couple of months ago I decided to spend the money on a more sophisticated drone with cool photography abilities. My wife and I travel a lot and we wanted to be able to take cooler images than a regular camera or cell phone.

I unpacked it last month but never really had the time to play with it. I was using it yesterday and this morning and it is awesome! Not for everyone of course. The capabilities are really cool. You can use hand gestures to "frame" your image. You can have it follow you (like if you are hiking, running, horseback riding). And tons of other features.

I actually almost lost track of it this morning as I was flying it down a stream and when I turned it around (I thought I did a 180, I did about a 135) I ended going up another bifurcation in the stream Long story short, I was about to hit the "Return Home" button but realized I had the real-time map on the display. So I was able to fly it back home.

One thing the gubermint did recently was actually a bonus for drone operators. If you fly in class A,B,C,D,E airspace you had to file for approval. I hardly thought anyone bothered. THey either did not fly or flew illegally.

Through and app, you can get real-time authorization from the FAA. It takes like 10 seconds. So if a LEO stops you, you can say that you do have FAA approval. You still need to make sure you are in compliance with local laws though. "

Siam created the thread Steelers legend Rocky Bleier returns to Vietnam 50 years after being wounded in battle.
" ESPN is airing a documentary about Rocky Bleier later this month. This is a short story about his return to Vietnam. A little bias here for me since I have always been a Steelers. Mr Bleier has always been a person I have admired, as a player, American, soldier, and role model. I read his book a long time ago. I might just have to dust it off again.

For those that don't know who he is, Rocky Bleier got drafted by the military in his rookie year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He got wounded and was not expected to play football again. He fought back and became a football legend. If you can find the movie, based off of his book, it is pretty good. " Fighting Back: The Rocky Bleier Story"

The emotion he has when visiting the same field he got wounded cannot really express or be understood unless you have lived it. I have no idea what I would do if I visited a place in Afghanistan 50 years from now to relive something. That is tongue n cheek, I know exactly what I would do..sniffle and be emotional I think anyone that has served and saw fellow soldiers die or get wounded would do the same. Bless all of our vets and military still serving.

Siam created the thread There is hope for the youth of this country.
" I posted a thread about two teens who obviously have either never had a moral compass, never was guided by parents and family to find a moral compass. These were the ones that vandalized the sand sculpture in Hawaii.

Now for the good news. There is hope for our youth. The Little League World Series (LLWS) is going on right now. I am not a baseball fan but I do love watching this event every year. San Antonio has been represented well there in the past. Anyway, I digress.

The son of the Kentucky coach passed away a couple of years ago from a rare infection (he was a Little Leaguer at the time). The KY team hung up his jersey and the kids on the KY team would touch it before every game. Before KY faced the Rhode Island team, the Rhode Islands went and touched the jersey as well. Wisconsin police say they found a fugitive hiding in a solar-powered bunker in the woods

This is not about that the guy is a dirtbag. But he was able to live on his own in the woods for three years. Just an interesting read.

1: He used solar panels for three years to power his stuff
2: He scavanged for food and things he needed from a landfill

Over the course of three years, Button told police, he made daily and nightly trips to the Ringle landfill on a bicycle for things like clothes, food, tools, equipment and electronics. The bunker grew cluttered, which forced him to make the cave even deeper.
Button told police that he had solar power to run his TV, radio, fans and lights. He made a generator with a bicycle that he would pedal if he needed an additional power source.
"Button had explained he could find just about anything in the landfill," Deiler wrote in his report.
In the colder months, Button kept warm with a fire pit.
For water, he told police that he created a well system by digging a hole in a wet part of the woods and lining it with sand and charcoal. He'd boil the water before using it.
Button told police he had multiple ways to get in and out of his bunker so nearby hikers wouldn't spot him. If he did see people out hiking or hunting, he would make "small talk with them about a nice day to be on a hike, and continued on his way."

Siam created the thread From a former disbeliever: Why Texas could go blue in 2020.
" From a former disbeliever: Why Texas could go blue in 2020

I am here to tell ya that it is more than just about guns and gun violence and healthcare that will turn the great state of Texas Blue. Until we get a Republican or other candidate to stop messing with our heads, then I will not vote and nor will some others I know. If Ghost was in Texas that would be another vote lost to the Republicans next election as well.

Point is that "Bump Stock" Trump needs to stop playing both sides and cherish the 2A as we do. I know of at least 30 people in my area and running club that will not vote for BST again since he let us down the first time.

And yes, blame me and those like me if the state goes Blue. But do not forget the reason why. I was taught to not to lie and deceive people. I can't vote for anyone that does, even if the lessor of two evils.

Losing Texas, if it does happen, will be a big blow to BST's relection campaign, not to mention what i does in Congress if the seats switch. "

Female Runner Tackles Alleged Flasher on Massachusetts Running Path

Massachusetts State Police are on the lookout for a man who reportedly flashed a woman while she was jogging on a public trail.

“It was not his lucky day, because I just decided it was not going to happen,” the woman, who said she was a former member of the Israeli military, told the local ABC affiliate afterward. “I decided to chase him down.”

Police say that the woman was able to tackle the suspect to ground. She asked passersby for help, but no one stepped forward.
So many things to say about this one.

1: Chasing down a flasher might not be the wisest choice one can make. I am not saying to not try it. Just thinking of all the possibilities that could go wrong. The ole risk vs gain thing.

2: My MIL said "she was in the the Isreali Army so she is well trained. She might or might not be. She could have been a supply sergeant. It still does not negate #1 above. She was unarmed. This guy could have been armed.

3: The passerby's should be put in jail for not stopping and helping. I jest of course. But they are a pitiful lot of souls.

4: Why would anyone live in MA anyway "

Siam created the thread Florida woman arrested after turning in estranged husband's gun a day after he tried to run her over.
" Well, all I can say is this:

1. One should not have guns taken from them by anyone (wife, gubermint) until they are convicted of something and serving time in jail. Being accused of domestic assault and not yet convicted, means no one should be taking your stuff. Guy might be a dirt bag, who knows. We need to let the courts figure it out.

2. IMO she should be thrown in jail from the information in the article. She broke into his house/apartment.

Florida woman arrested after turning in estranged husband's gun a day after he tried to run her over

A Florida woman was reportedly arrested after taking firearms from her estranged husband’s home to turn in to police, a day after he allegedly tried to run over her.

Courtney Irby, 32, was arrested last Saturday and charged with one count of armed burglary after an arrest affidavit said she showed up to the Lakeland Police Department station with guns belonging to her husband, Joseph Irby, just one day after he was arrested on a domestic battery charge, WKMG reported.

According to police, Irby admitted to entering her husband’s apartment without permission and taking the guns to the station over fears he “wasn’t going to turn them in” himself.

Siam created the thread How many years in jail would Batman get under New York law?.
" This could have gone into the Law Enforcement sub-forum but I thought Off Topic and humor would be best. The guy that does these videos is hillarious. He has done videos on things like how much money in lawsuits would Willy Wonka need to pay in Civil Damages and how many years in jail how would serve for crimes committed in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". He did an analysis of how accurate "My Cousin Vinny" is vis a vis courtroom accuracy. He also did one for the Star Trek Next Generation episode "Measure of a Man".

In this video he uses New York law (since Gotham City is really kinda like NYC) to explain how many years in jail the Joker and Batman would get. Not counting the hacking charges, Batman would get almost 200 years in jail.

Siam created the thread We had to cut our trip to Houston short: AC went out in our house.
" First, thanks to all with the recommendations on where to eat in Houston. Unfortunately, we had to cut our vacation short. I can monitor our home while we are away and our AC went out. We have two cats in the house and a person that was going to check on them every couple of days.

Anyway, we ended up driving back last night.

I know lots of folks do not like the idea of having anything tied to the internet, but sometimes it is a good thing. Knowing if your AC is out in the summer or if the heating goes out in the winter is an important thing.

Anyway, we did make it to the Space Center in Houston (worth the trip), the Aquarium in Houston (was a waste of time and money), and ate at the Lighthouse Buffet at Kemah Boardwalk (AWESOME buffet!!!!) We also got to see the Museum of Fine Arts nd they had a Van Gogh exhibit which was really cool. The Museum of Natural Science was a good visit as well.

Overall, not bad for 2 days. Except for the Aquarium, it was fun. We will go back in July for a soccer game, Real Madrid is playing and we will take in an Astros game. "

Siam created the thread Keep your Situational Awareness and still listen to music, phone, podcast.
" I put this in the General Firearms section instead of off-topic because it has more to do with SA and self-defense than running

The spouse and I went to our local running store to get some new shoes for her and shorts for me. I have been curious about how well Bone Conductive Headphones work and they had a setup to try them out. I was honestly blown away by the quality and fidelity of the sound that you could hear.

Not only was it a great sound, you can hear all of the sounds around you since they do not go in your ears but are pressed against your bone. Point is, if you have a need or want to listen to music, your phone, podcasts, whatever, and want to make sure you can hear the sounds around you, this might be an option.

Personally, I like to blast my music into my ears so for me, not a need. But lots of folks like to run, walk the dog, play golf while having ear buds in but want to be able to hear what is around them.

Just food for thought.

Siam created the thread What is your litmus test for the RTKBA's?.
" Someone asked me this once in another thread which has definitely gone off topic.

You can't discriminate between WMD and bump stocks? Perhaps therein lies the problem.
This was my answer to that (edited for this thread)

And to answer your question about distinguishing between WMD's and bump stocks..nope, I do not really see a difference and here is why. Quite simply, anyone sitting in the Presidents office will decide what they think is appropriate for me to own, buy, carry for my personal defense. If some POTUS thinks bump stocks should be banned, which is at the total end of the spectrum from WMD's...what stops such a person from declaring anything in the middle deemed necessary to be banned.
That IS the problem when we think it is OK for a person or government to decide what a person wants. There is enough stuff in a Walmart or Home Depot where someone can buy stuff and design a weapon that can cause mass destruction. It might not fit the definition of WMD, but being able to make something to kill 20 people or more is definitely more of a threat than a potential use of a bump stock..

What is your personal litmus test of what should be banned under law and what you consider NOT an infringement. "

Siam created the thread The human body is amazing: runner shooting for sub 2 hour marathon.
" Kipchoge targets London for attempt at sub 2-hour marathon

To run sub 2 hours, one would need to basically be sprinting a 100 yard dash in just a tad under 16 seconds continuously for 26.2 miles.

Training is one thing, but genetics obviously a major factor here

I am hoping to run sub 3 hours in Nov or Dec this year and I would be happy with that being 55 years old "

Siam created the thread Felon and GCA 1968: Actress cries as she pleads guilty in college admissions scandal.
" Actress Felicity Huffman cries as she pleads guilty in college admissions scandal

1: This is the correct forum, (not current events) because it is about gun rights
2: This is not about a Hollywood star that might or not own firearms or her thoughts about them, it is about being a felon and no longer having the right to bear arms.

When she appeared in court in Boston, prosecutors recommended a sentence of four months prison time for the "Desperate Housewives" TV star for her role in the college admissions scandal. They also suggested a $20,000 fine and 12 months of supervised release for the charge, which is a felony.
Unless one has not been following the news, a bunch of rich folks basically paid a guy to get their kids into "prestigious" colleges. They are now being held accountable, which they should be. They will also have been convicted of a felony or plead guilty to a felony which means that they can no longer purchase or own firearms.

This a great example of why the Gun Control Act of 1968 needs to be repealed.

Totally stupid that these folks cannot bear arms after they serve their sentences. "

He went nuts over the weekend and tried to kill himself. When the LE showed up he wanted the LE to shoot him. He is currently in a physiatrist facility being evaluated.

My sister has been totally stressed in the last 5 years with his declining health and his unwillingness to help himself. Don't get me wrong, he has been a great husband and father to his kids. I think at this point in his life he realized HE screwed up and now wants to end it.

My concern and prayers for him are that the idiots in the psych ward will believe him when he says he is OK and they let him go home and he will kill himself.

Prayers requested and thanks for your time "

Siam created the thread Figure the odds on this event happening (Gun related).
" I was telling my wife about an episode of "Hollywood Weapons: Fact or Fiction" that I was watching. She was in he she-cave watching "Justified". I laughed and said "what a coincidence", the guy on my show is reenacting a shooting from Justified. I Walked in to she what episode she was watching and it was the SAME episode that they were discussing my show.

Odds that she was watching that episode at the same time I was watching my show comes to 1:1872 (78 episodes of Justified, 24 for HW:FF).

That is not counting that she was actually watching Justified at all at the same time which would obviously make it even less probable.

BTW: Awesome show! They did one about the Star Trek episode with the Gorn, when Kirk made the cannon. "

Michigan father intentionally shot son, 2, in face with shotgun: prosecutors

The mother took the boy to the car and strapped him in a seat, the report said. Glance came out of the house with a shotgun and allegedly fired the weapon, blowing half his son’s face off, according to the report. Glance fired at the mother as she fled the scene with her son in the car, but the shotgun malfunctioned, Rezmierski said.

Siam created the thread Dungeons and Dragons.
" Anyone ever play D&D? I used to play a lot in HS and College. I have reconnected with some friends and they have been playing online through a couple of services. I am going to participate in my first campaign tonight.

It is pretty cool. No changes in the game. Using the online service you can see the map and basically Skype with the players. There is even background music

I wonder if there are enough people here that would ever be interested in playing a game or two.

One cool thing (for those that have played) is you upload your character sheets and the dice roll on the screen so all the points are calculated automatically.

Here is a screen shot (not me in it)

Sports teams dump Kate Smith's 'God Bless America' because of her racist songs

Just to be clear, nobody is not stopping playing "God Bless America", they are just not using her rendition.

"We have recently become aware that several songs performed by Kate Smith contain offensive lyrics that do not reflect our values as an organization," the Flyers said in a statement to CNN.
"As we continue to look into this serious matter, we are removing Kate Smith's recording of 'God Bless America' from our library and covering up the statue that stands outside of our arena."
The Yankees said the team also was no longer playing Smith's iconic 1939 version of the song because she sang at least two songs during the 1930s that are now considered racist.
"Why Darkies are Born"

"Someone had to pick the cotton,
Someone had to plant the corn,
Someone had to slave and be able to sing,
That's why darkies were born"
Some have said when she sang the songs it was satire and was to oppose racism, others take a view she thought it was funny. I have no clue.

Siam created the thread Canadian police are looking for the suspect that shot a woman with a crossbow.
" Canadian police are looking for the suspect who posed as a deliveryman and shot a woman with a crossbow

I thought this was new. It is an updated story from Nov 2018. A guy shows up and shoots her with a crossbow. The noteworthy thing is that the Canadian police are now releasing the video to have people help identify the BG. This happened 5 months ago.

I get it that the police might keep info away from the public so as not to spook the BG. But after 5 months I wonder how useful this will be.

A woman will be in recovery for the rest of her life after someone posing as a delivery person shot her point-blank with a crossbow.

The attack, which is being investigated as an attempted murder, occurred in November in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This week, police released video footage of the suspect at the victim's door in the hope that the person could be identified.
Emergency services responding to a Mississauga residence on November 7, found a 44-year-old woman suffering from life-threatening injuries and transported her to a hospital, police said in a news release Monday.
Investigators have since determined the victim answered her front door and was met with a person holding a large box. After a brief conversation, the suspect shot the woman in the chest using a crossbow that was concealed in the box. The suspect then fled to a dark-colored pickup truck, authorities said.

" A gun in a diaper bag went off, injuring dad and daughter. Now the dad has died

Prayers for the family. A very sad day, and one that is preventable. Always be aware of where your firearm is. I am glad the baby will be OK.

A man who accidentally shot himself while changing his daughter's diaper in a vehicle in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, has died, police said.

Timothy Roshun Smith was shot in the leg and chest, and his daughter's leg was injured, when a loaded gun in a diaper bag went off Saturday outside a Chuck E Cheese's.
The 22-year-old man died Monday, said Capt. Johnny Evans of the Vestavia Hills Police Department. The girl is expected to make a full recovery, Evans said.
Smith was in the back seat of a vehicle Saturday outside the pizza restaurant, changing the girl's diaper. The gun went off as he picked up or reached inside a diaper bag on the floorboard, Evans said after the incident.
After the gun went off, the bullet traveled through Smith's leg and then the child's leg before lodging in the man's chest, Evans said.

Chaos at Walmart as woman performs karate, son exposes himself, dog steals food

Chaos descended on a Wisconsin Walmart store Wednesday night after a karate-performing mother, her naked son, and their belligerent dog shoplifted and ran amok in the store.
After being told to leave the store, the woman began showing off her karate moves in the parking lot to fend off police officers.

The dog tried to flee the crime scene, albeit unsuccessfully, with a box of Jiffy Cornbread Muffin Mix in his mouth.

After a brief fight with the officers, Smith was arrested. As a last-ditch attempt, she tried to kick a window out of a police car.

Her raucous son, meanwhile, was getting fully naked and began exposing himself to other customers at the store. He then tried to cover himself with new clothes from the store without intending to pay for them, police said.

Siam created the thread Funny:Interesting law/regulation for Yosemite Park.
" I was watching a rock climbing documentary and they brought up an interesting thing.

One thing I never considered is that some solo/free climbers climb with a BASE parachute in case they fall. So, if you have a legal permit to climb El Capitan but fall and deploy your chute, then you broke the law because BASE jumping without a permit is illegal. If landed without a parachute and got killed he would be OK legally

Reminds me of the dialogue in Judge Dredd:

Judge Dredd: And you haven't even been out of jail for 24 hours. He's habitual, Hershey. An automatic five year sentence. How do you plead?
Herman Ferguson: Not guilty?
Judge Dredd: I knew you'd say that.
Ferguson: Five years?! No! No! I had no choice! They were killing each other in there.
Judge Dredd: You could have gone out the window.
Ferguson: Forty floors? It would have been suicide!
Judge Dredd: Maybe, but it's legal.

Siam created the thread Boys rescued from Thai cave were sedated with ketamine. Interesting article.
" This is the CNN article
Boys rescued from Thai cave were sedated with ketamine

According to details of the rescue released in a medical journal Thursday, the boys were given unspecified doses of ketamine, also known as party drug Special K, by the rescue divers as they were taken out of Tham Luang cave.
Reports at the time had suggested that the children, who had been trapped for two weeks, were sedated during the operation, but officials gave few details.
"We had to use the means that could keep the children not to be panicky while we were carrying them out," Thai Navy SEAL commander Rear Adm. Arpakorn Yookongkaew told CNN shortly after the rescue. "Most importantly, they are alive and safe."
The link in the article is for the New England Journal of Medicine writeup. In case you do not subscribe to NEJM here are some interesting things about the rescue and the preplanning for it from a medical POV.

The Tham Luang cave rescue mission to save 12 boys and their soccer coach1,2 provided an important experience base for the prehospital care of patients with hypothermia who had been anesthetized before their arrival at the field hospital. With impending monsoon rains and concerns about falling oxygen levels in the cave, a plan to urgently extricate the patients was developed. The plan involved the use of ketamine-based anesthesia and a positive-pressure full-face mask (supplying 80% oxygen); the boys were swum out of the cave wearing poorly fitting wet suits in cold water.
The after-action review on day 1 identified hypothermia and inefficient team coordination as the critical components, and the Thailand Cave Rescue Protocol, which addressed airway, breathing, circulation, and hypothermia management (ABC+H), was developed. Resuscitation roles (ABC) were assigned to an anesthesiologist, respirologist, and pediatric cardiologist, respectively. The hypothermia management was formalized and assigned to the anesthesiologist. The accuracy of core temperature measurement was improved with the use of tympanic membrane temperature monitoring, which was performed every 5 minutes until a temperature of 35.0°C was observed for at least four readings. Ketamine, a vasoconstrictor that impairs shivering, is associated with smaller drops in core temperature and is a good choice for patients at risk for hypothermia.

Siam created the thread Spring breakers fight off would-be robbers and take their gun.
" Good for them and I am glad none of the kids were hurt. I think there are lots of learning lessons in this video

The primary one is that they did not consider there was a second robber. Lots of times it looked like the gunman could have shot the kids. I think that there was something wrong with the gun (not loaded) or more likely the gunman was overwhelmed and might not have had the stomach to actually shoot someone.

" Assuming everything is true in the article, the man should be left alone. You do not send someone back to jail if you were the one that let him out.

A man walked out of prison 13 years ago thinking he was free. The feds say he owes 16 months

Demetrius Anderson walked out of a Connecticut state prison in 2006 thinking he was ready to leave behind his criminal past and build a new life as an upstanding citizen.

The Philadelphia native stayed in Connecticut and stayed out of trouble. He has two jobs, lives in a nice apartment and belongs to a church.
But last week, eight US Marshals came to his home. He was certain they were after the wrong person. He hadn't committed a crime in more than 13 years. They insisted he come with them to court because he still had a 16-month federal sentence to serve for crimes he committed in Philadelphia.
Anderson thought his state sentence was concurrent to his federal one. And when he got out of prison early, there were no federal officials to transfer him to another facility.
He went out and got a job, reported to his parole officer, and lived a crime-free life.
But during an internal audit, federal marshals reportedly discovered Anderson never served prison time for his federal charge. They asked a Pennsylvania judge to issue a warrant for his detention.

Siam created the thread Unsung hero of World War II: Jacques Stosskopf.
" Most people, even people in France might not know if this man. I ran across his name while researching about WWII. I can't imagine the pain and suffering he and his family went through.

Jacques Stosskopf was a Frenchman who became a collaborator with the Germans. Or so it seemed. He built up trust with the Germans and was achieved the posting of deputy director of naval construction at the German-held Lorient U-boat arsenal. In this role he was despised and hated by the workers there. Only a handful of people in the resistance knew that he was providing valuable information to the allies on U-boat operations.

Imagine, living a lie and being hated while risking your life and being loyal to your country the whole time.

He was eventually found out, tortured and executed.
