John W in SC replied to the thread How hot is it????.
" Some years ago, during a "heat wave", I took a photo of our porch thermometer reading 107 and e-mailed it to my wife at work. She was having a good time showing it off until a patron looked it and said "where my son is its 140, he's wearing full combat gear, and people are shooting at him".

Kind of put things in perspective.

Anyway, here is an actual photo.

John W in SC replied to the thread Something for you reloaders to kick around..
" I'm not a reloader, so please excuse a stoopid question: Have you pulled a bullet to see if there was powder in the case? Checked for signs the primer had ignited? Signs the primer ignited but the powder didn't?

If the cartridge doesn't go bang with good firing pin strikes, it seems to me its either a primer issue or a powder issue.

" My wife and I were in town last week when three guys approached us. "Habla espanol?" asked the first. I just shook my head.

"Sprechen ze Deutch?" asked the second. I shook my head again.

Parle vous Franches?" asked the third.

"English. ENGLISH!!!" I told them. They walked away and didn't bother us no more.

"Maybe we should learn another language" my wife suggested.

"What for?" I asked her. "Them fellers knowed three languages, and it didn't do them no good".

John W in SC created the thread Got Lost In The Woods!.
" Last week I took my wife for a hike in the woods to teach her the skills she would need if civilization ends and we had to leave our home without any survival equipment. Things didn't go as I'd hoped, and I had to admit I'd gotten us really, really lost. I did remember that the trail we came in on was sort of south, but there was no moss on the trees and it was an overcast day, so those methods didn't work. After wandering aimlessly for over an hour, I spotted an old log cabin in the distance. I studied the cabin carefully, then announced “we go this way”. Within minutes we were back on the trail and on our way home.

My wife was duly impressed! “How did you know which way to go?” she asked.

“Easy” I told her. “I just looked at the old cabin. In this part of the country satellite dishes point south.”

Bada Bing!

Scores Killed, Hundreds Injured as Para-Military Extremists Riot in Boston Area

National guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a paramilitary extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement. Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices.

The governor, who described the group's organizers as "criminals," issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order.

The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed widespread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons. Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms. One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily."

Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition.

However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government's plans.

During a tense standoff in Lexington's town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes.

The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists.

Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units.

Colonel Smith, finding his forces overmatched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.

Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor has also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops.

Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as "ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

John W in SC created the thread Shipwrecked!.
" A young Millennial from South Carolina finally decided to take a vacation. He booked himself on a Caribbean cruise and proceeded to have the time of his life.

Until – the ship sank. The man found himself swept up on the shore of an island with no other people, no supplies, nothing. Only bananas and coconuts. A month later the most a gorgeous woman came ashore. "How did you get here?", he asked.

"I rowed from the other side of the island," she said, "I landed here when the cruise ship sank."

"Amazing," he said, "You were really lucky to have a rowboat wash up with you."

"Oh, this?." replied the woman "I made the rowboat "

"But-- but, that's impossible," stuttered the man, "you had no tools or hardware, how did you manage?"

"Oh, that was no problem," replied the woman, "on the south side of the island there is a very unusual strata of alluvial rock exposed. I found that if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into forgeable ductile iron. I used that for tools, and used the tools to make the hardware”. The guy was stunned.

"Let's row over to my place, " she said. After a few minutes of rowing, she docked the boat at a small wharf. Before him was an exquisite bungalow painted in blue and white. "It's not much," she said, but I call it home. Sit down please; would you like to have a drink?"

"No, no thank you" he said, "I can't take any more coconut juice."

"It's not coconut juice," the woman replied. "I have a still. How about a Pina Colada?"

Trying to hide his continued amazement, the man accepted, and they sat down on her couch to talk. After they had exchanged their stories, the woman announced, "I'm going to slip into something more comfortable. Would you like to take a shower and shave, there is a razor upstairs in the cabinet in the bathroom."

No longer questioning anything, the man went into the bathroom. There in the cabinet was a razor made from a bone handle. Two shells honed to a hollow ground edge were fastened on to its end inside of a swivel mechanism. "This woman is amazing," he mused, "what next?"

When he returned, she greeted him wearing nothing but vines—strategically positioned-- and smelling faintly of gardenias. She beckoned for him to sit down next to her. "Tell me," she began, suggestively, slithering closer to him, "we've been out here for a very long time. You've been lonely. There's something I'm sure you really feel like doing right now, something you've been longing for all these months? You know..." She stared into his eyes.

He couldn't believe what he was hearing: "You mean-- ?", he replied, "--I can check PDF Forum from here?"
