eagleks created the thread BEWARE - AR Ban of Dems is way more than AR's.
" I wondered, been looking, and finally found more on the present proposal on the AR Ban by the Dem's. What I suspected, it is not purely an AR ban .... it's Feinstien's old Semi-Auto rifle ban that covered all semi-auto rifles or that can take a magazine , with additions.

The additions is , before it could have 2 features, on this one .. it is "ONE" feature. Having any magazine is 1 feature, a heat shield is 1 feature, a pistol grip is 1 feature... you get the idea. It in essence bans nearly all or all semi-auto rifle out there. The fact a Ruger 10/22 can take a black rifle type stock, etc.... would still disqualify it... as I understand it at this point. That was also a point some made, as to the reason it would be. It flat states, caliber and type of ammo they use will have nothing to do with the determinations. It's very very very open ended. ... would be easy for them to expand it.

I remember Pelosi, Feinstein, etc. saying in the past ... in the long run and after they got a ban on all semi-auto rifles, they would then add all semi-auto handguns as well.. That was / is their strategy.

I hoped Trump would stand up , and he did... at least so far. He said he was not going along with them trying to ban a whole host of guns / rifles, nor do major damage to the 2nd Amendment and take away guns about all gun owners have, and was only willing to listen and talk.... but is not making any guarantees .... and will not support the present proposal of the Dem's in any way.

NICS checks, he said he is not with the Universal NIC checks, he's saying he is for improving the present system ..... e.g. that data and information should be all there and improved . For instance (he used) the guy the passed the NICS check but was a felon, but not in the records ... State didn't provide that info for the system. The shooter that bought a gun, but had been given a dishonorable from the military, but the info was not in the system and never input, so he was able to buy the gun,. ... etc.

They say some GOP members are starting to say they will support the ban, we need to be letting our Reps know how we feel, in mass. "

j/k..Seriously, what is a "law-abiding citizen"? A criminal that once got a Felony charge for theft when they were 20 years old and have led a perfect life since then and cannot own a firearm because of stupid laws? Or is it the regular folks that routinely drive 10 miles over the speed limit, breaking the law everyday?

Is it the person that got a felony charge on them 30 years ago for tax evasion, but has otherwise led an honest life? Or is it the person that does not stop at stop signs all the time?

Just curious what your take on a law-abiding citizen is (or the NRA's take on it)

BTW: The traffic offenders I mentioned are a much larger threat to the safety of society and the risk of having insurance rates raised for everyone than the other two examples I gave.
The traffic offenders I mentioned are a much larger threat to the safety of society and the risk of having insurance rates raised for everyone than the other two examples I gave
Yep. We have many laws, some (fair) some not so much. Some have more to do with revenue and less to do with justice.
We are all imperfect creatures, subject to error. Sadly, some errors can cause the taking of another's life.

Texting while driving for instance kills far more people than a sick individual on a rampage with a AR; yet, there is not even one single call for the banning of cell phones.
This discussion could easily take on it's own topic; (i.e) Fairness, law, justice, priorities, value judgement.

Unfortunately we are NOT a self policing society.

"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
A tough pill to swallow indeed. ^^^...and also explains a lot.

Problems arise when man goes far outside the authority granted him/her. (i.e) The U.S Constitution

There are no easy answers, so; "Let every man work this out for himself" "

Wisconsin police say they found a fugitive hiding in a solar-powered bunker in the woods

This is not about that the guy is a dirtbag. But he was able to live on his own in the woods for three years. Just an interesting read.

1: He used solar panels for three years to power his stuff
2: He scavanged for food and things he needed from a landfill

Over the course of three years, Button told police, he made daily and nightly trips to the Ringle landfill on a bicycle for things like clothes, food, tools, equipment and electronics. The bunker grew cluttered, which forced him to make the cave even deeper.
Button told police that he had solar power to run his TV, radio, fans and lights. He made a generator with a bicycle that he would pedal if he needed an additional power source.
"Button had explained he could find just about anything in the landfill," Deiler wrote in his report.
In the colder months, Button kept warm with a fire pit.
For water, he told police that he created a well system by digging a hole in a wet part of the woods and lining it with sand and charcoal. He'd boil the water before using it.
Button told police he had multiple ways to get in and out of his bunker so nearby hikers wouldn't spot him. If he did see people out hiking or hunting, he would make "small talk with them about a nice day to be on a hike, and continued on his way."

A non-NATO nuclear missile is fired from Turkey at USSR, where it detonates. Soviet response is automatic as it's seen as a NATO missile. Can continued escalation be avoided? We follow the US president and a bomber crew.

I gave you a Like for giving me your explanation. I, however, disagree. Once you have served your sentence and released from prison, your rights should be restored. That is a modern thing that happened in 1968 when they passed the Gun Control Act. The original 2A did not infringe on people after being released from prison. "

j/k..Seriously, what is a "law-abiding citizen"?

People who have never been convicted of a violent felony. "

I believe that the bump stock ban is a bone Trump can throw out to those who don't want confiscation but who are just snowflake enough to think that maybe Trump is not hardline pro-gun enough to make them consider voting Democrat to soothe their fears. While it doesn't set well with those of us who know that negotiation with Democrats on this is futile, if it keeps those Democrats out of the office for 4 more years, and allows Trump to appoint at least one more SCOTUS member it may turn the tide on SCOTUS rulings in the future.

Again this effort is driven by the people. I have seen polls that show that the bump stock ban doesn't affect Trump's numbers even among gun owners and it has very high numbers among the general population. I think the calculation has been made that the ban on bump stocks will help him in 2020 more than it will hurt him. I believe that most gun owners in the general population agree with the idea that they have no place to go other than Trump if they hope to keep the gun grabbing Democrats out of office for 4 more years, and they won't abandon Trump over bump stocks. Should Trump cave and pass UBCs or red flag no due process laws those numbers would probably reverse and I am hopeful that he knows it.

Ive,never met anyone in 50 yrs who was, polled, about anythibg and I doubt you have either.

I can tell you for a,FACT I know, many gun owners personally who voted for Trump but won't again over the ban ,Fix nics and the crap he keeps spewing now, about red flag , mental health and guns etc ad nausem, whether he means it or not.

He is 12d chess playing himself out of office. "

Call it "12D chess" or any other euphemism ... it's still, at the end of the day, giving aid and comfort to our domestic enemies via suggesting to them it's allowable in the least way.

In the end, too, SCOTUS and all the other judges out there see this stuff happening. They also see it's tacit approval for the evisceration concept. As though any of it's okay to tolerate. That matters. That has consequences. Far, far longer down the road than any one individual hireling we might ever put into office, simply given how long-lived court rulings end up being. The impact of such defiling "opinions" (rulings) can echo through generations. To-date, 90% of the crap has been to further defilement of the RKBA, instead of protecting it. Every additional claim it's okay to eviscerate becomes one more small nail in its coffin. If we're not careful, it's going to be the death of it.
