Selective reading perhaps?

What IS being said (over & over again) is RIGHTS and restrictions are polar opposites, you are born with certain rights, they're NOT to be taken away , .Gov had NO authority to do so to any free person walking the streets - period. Tyranny has meaning, rights are RIGHTS, the interesting thing (to me) is that some are totally ignoring the OP and stuck on violent crimes etc. etc. etc. instead of the tens of thousands of other felonies that illegally attempt to steal Rights from freed persons.

Where does one stand on other's rights? Only when something affects yourselves? Guess what many here unknowingly have probably committed some felony(ies) nothing violent of course or they'd know. Think about that "

The pedophile should be sentenced to jail for life with a possibility for parole. The rationale behind that is that they would only be released if deemed not a threat anymore. Currently, it does not work like that. And the way I understand it, the released pedophile now is not always "tracked" anyway. They are restricted where they can live and associate with. And they should be allowed the RTKBA's.

Reimbursement for damages is a civil matter more so than a punitive action or criminal punishment.

The example of securities fraud and being barred from practicing again had more so to do with licensing requirements than a criminal judgment.

Setting all of that aside, there is a world of difference barring someone from choosing how they can protect their lives, the lives of their families, and their property vs regulatory and licensing requirements to hold a job or limiting civil damages in a settlement resulting from criminal action.

It is not even the same topic. "

Securities business/practice licensing revocation -- it's a permissions scheme, and permissions can be granted, withheld or revoked.

All seem reasonable to me.

It'd be nice, though, if the statute violations for which a person gets convicted would actually specify that X, Y or Z penalties are to be implemented or are on the table. Yet, nearly none specify anything other than incarceration terms and/or fines. But myriad penalties are leveled above and beyond what's statutorily stated. Makes one wonder what wouldn't be tolerated as a penalty, given penalties are leveled above and beyond what's specified. Interesting question. And the answer probably is: whatever penalties they want to impose. Though that should be up to but excluding what's expressly denied to be fiddled with (speech, association, arms, counsel, etc).
I agree with those things. But, I keep seeing comments that once one is out of jail/prison that all rights should be fully reinstated and that no more restrictions can be allowed. I believe that there can be punishments other than prison or jail. "

Should a pedophile be getting out at all? Or a murderer, rapist? IF they Are in fact released, time served that is IT.....and in fact as I explained several time has been for a very , very long time. The fact some decided that other's rights are "lost" (which is asinine on it's very face) is quite recent and not allowed per the COTUS & BOR.

I suppose some folks simply have trouble understanding Shall NOT be infringed, confuse rights with privileges OR view others as "less than themselves" , that doesn't make it right. The BOR are pre-existing long before the USA or any other country, WE (the founders to be precise) just made sure to codify these rights within the BOR & COTUS "

There have been a couple of times a LEO lost a child because of negligence on the LEO by leaving a gun out and the child shot themselves.

Most of the post were recognizing a human error on the part of the adult, and were done with respect.

What makes this different? Because he was a 22 year old?

We should take these as learning experiences and reminders about gun safety, not an oppurtunity to disparge the person who died.
You must have missed the video of a sheriff's deputy who went into a gun store, and while handling a pistol, swept other patrons there, and then, finally putting his finger in front of the barrel, shot his finger off. I remember making some rather pointed remarks about his general intelligence; I can't remember on which forum.

Oh, he decided to sue the gun shop for giving him a loaded firearm. I can think of some more comments about his decreased intelligence, but haven't posted them anywhere.

I don't care if he is LEO. He was really, really stupid. Apparently, he's on some sort of disability and is off the streets, so he has done everyone a favor. But he's not guilty of anything and so has the right to go shopping again for a gun and try to do a better job next time.
----------------
And then, there's the LEO teaching a firearms class who proclaimed that he was the only one trained enough to handle his pistol. He shot himself in the foot a few seconds later. He was an excellent example of what not to do. I learned from his arrogance; be humble. And careful. "

" I see no problem whatsoever in taking a absolutist position.

Here's why:

The haters of freedom along with ALL who desire to see this country morph into something it was never intended to be, WILL and do take a absolutist position. "They" will ask for the moon in the stripping of rights in hopes of at least getting something.

Ask for little; get nothing. Ask for it all; get something; lose nothing.

Seems to me banning AR's or a 7 rnd max mag size is pretty damn absolute.

Strong negotiators never give away the farm; they would sooner walk away from the table.

The 2A advocate crowd in the past has capitulated..look what it has done.

One step forward two steps back is not my idea of gaining ground.

Ex: I want a nuke, a Abrams tank, a flame thrower, a 50 cal full auto, a grenade, a Walther PPQ 9mm with 2,000 rounds of ammo.

Now; in my demands, which do you think I'll get?

I guarantee I'll get SOMETHING!

If I ask to carry my Walther and 100 rnds of ammo; I'll probable be denied.

No sir; I want it all in the hopes of getting more than I have now..I won't give it away nor will I bargain with rights granted me not by men. "

So, back to this sub-3hr marathon you're planning. What's the plan so far, if you're willing to divulge? The Kipchoge official barn-burner training plan, or something else?
Pretty simple. In a nutshell

Phase 1 (xx-Jun 15th) Build miles and extend my weekly mileage 45-52 miles a week)
-One long run of 12-18 miles a week, a ten miler, and 6-9 milers mixed in.
-Just a little bit of speed work and hills, more so to mix it up than to really do anything

Phase (2 June 16th to July 20th or so) Chill out, rest, reduce miles but still do long run
- One long run a week 12-18 mile, 6-8 milers, no speed work or hills.
-Take 1 week off and just relax

Phase 3 (July 20th to 18 Aug) same as Phase 1, but build miles to 50-70 weekly

Phase 4 (19 Aug to Marathon dates in Dec and Jan)

- a mix of speedwork once a week, tempo runs 3 times a week, hills once a week and long run 12 to 22 miles a week.

I am amazed at the training plans that the elites do. 100-150 miles a week is just plain crazy! I plan on doing a 70 mile week only once. the rest is under 65 "

I run in Saucony Kinvara 9's and the newer model Kinvara 10's. The heel drop is 4 mm Weight is only 8.4 Oz

I used to always have my long distance shoes with 7-11 mm heel drop. I found out 2 years ago I like the 4 mm drop. Definitely not for everyone. You need to have an efficient running style, neutral stability, and not a heavy heel striker.

It does not make one faster, it just makes for a better run if it fits your style. "

Agree completely. What is strange, and this is not directed at any particular person, is that on gun forums , one has to defend the RTKABA and the 2a, as written from some other gun owners.

It's like they WANT their birth right limited, regulated and taken away. The RTKABA doesn't exist anymore. Permission does.

We have to fight to take that right back. Not bargain, politic and appease. "

It wasn't written for SD, hunting , target shooting etc. It's MAIN purpose was to assure the people could , if nessacary, throw off grips of a tyranical government . Just as the founders had just done.

Unless the people are armed in parity or greater with gov the whole purpose the founders wrote the 2a for. Regulation of weapons by any gov defeats that purpose.
Well said.

There should be no arms regulations at all.

The only laws needed are those against murder, robbery, assault, rape, etc. etc. Actual crimes against others. Methods or tools used are irrelevant. "

" If you guys lived in the '80s perhaps you remember this piece.
It was popular along with big revolvers on most cop TV shows and movies.
This firearm was standard issue in most police departments.
Some came retrofitted with tritium.
But after so long that tritium is dead.

Here is an affordable solution.
Glow-On Aqua, the owner of this handgun just plugged the wells where the tritium sits, with Glow-On.
Done!

Carrying is better, of course. It improves your chances. And it is exercising our right, even though the right is infringed. But nonetheless, we are cooperating with the "destroyers." It is for good reason, as you point out. But that just helps make my point about how gray and nuanced the situation is. "The people" have cooperated with infringements to 2A since the day it was signed.

And your point about continuing to fight for improvements is also exactly my point. But how can we not admit we are cooperating with infringements when we fill out a form, sign our name and pay the fee for our permit? I said that was NOT hypocritical, just ironic, just "gray." What is hypocritical in my view is spouting an absolutist viewpoint when we go along with infringements every day we carry with a permit. It is fine to hold the absolutes as an ideal, but as the loony left shows us constantly with their crazy antics, there are problems caused by not being able to differentiate between ideals and action.

I carry every day, but I own up to what I am doing. To use your words, "I am going along with an infringement, while working to improve things." And I do, provably, improve things. I can show the progress my state group makes all the time at getting anti-gun bills killed, getting pro-gun bills passed and making sure localities don't do end runs on the law. I am clearly in the gray area, but I am OK with it.

Here's where the conflict becomes a problem. While people with absolutist views may feel "pure of heart," they often refuse to play that "short game" that improves things and they put down the pro-gun activists who do. So they won't work for and vote for a politician who is not pure on 2A, and that lets a politician who is even worse get in office. They won't rally for improvements to the restrictions on CC permits, because permits are an infringement, so that activity is not "pure." They say things like citizens should own WMD, which may be a justifiably "pure" view, but makes 2A advocates seem like nuts to the voters in the middle, the ones who might be swayed by good arguments. In short, they criticize what is not "pure" when they themselves are cooperating with infringements, impurity, every day.
I'm clearly one your referring too but you have the absolutionist wrong in many ways.

You are right that I don't believe there is a short game as you put it.

And you are correct I won't vote for a politician that utters one sentence that supports any form of gun control.

But there's nothing ironic with a person who knows there is no gun regulation allowed by the COTUS getting a permit to carry if they must.

I have one. But I don't try to excuse having one by speaking of it and the RTKABA in the same breath.
My ccdw is infringement. Had I not had to travel out of state I would have simply open carried here and not got one.
That said. I would not have been able to do my small part in getting those permits axed sitting in a Ohio or Tenn prison now would I?

Simply because one gets a permit when forced to to does not mean they accept that permit is not infringement and has to go.

The only game to play where we,make any gain toward regaining the RTKABA is a steadfast demand being made daily to repeal all gun regulation.

I'm states that have permitless carry that is the stsnd most gun owners took. And it worked.

Electing mealy mouthed candidates talking out of both sides of their mouth concerning the RTKABA is,a,guarantee we don't move forward and likely get taken back several steps. "

I disagree. It's an option for everyone, as witnessed by the fact that most people don't carry and most of them do just fine. Even people who do carry most of the time occasionally go places they can't carry. It may not be a desirable option, or even an acceptable option, but it is clearly an option. You can prove it to yourself. You could actually go outside your house right now and walk down the street unarmed. Chances are 99.99999% you will make it back just fine.

And given that you don't find it an acceptable option, you willingly cooperate with, and therefore support, those infringements you keep complaining about. No one forces you to do that.

Look, all I'm saying is that even with things that are really important to us, things we feel very strongly about, we operate more in the gray areas than we do in black and white. "

I don't remember as I don't own the gun any longer. I sold it and got an h&k vp9 instead but lubricant is for fast moving parts or dissimilar metals mostly. Polished parts don't usually need lubricant because they glide across one another. I saw no issue without lubricant and did so assuming that lube would attract dirt and grit up the trigger again. "

They are not forced to do so. They could take the position that since their rights are infringed, they will not carry. But that is not what they do. It may not quite be hypocrisy, but sure is ironic.

And it is important to some of the points I've made. The Founding Fathers allowed infringements, the country has always allowed infringements and even the staunchest RTKABA people today cooperate with infringements. Nothing in the real world is black and white. There is always some gray. Good progress can be, and is being, made in the gray areas. And the people who are working on getting better situations for CC permits are not somehow traitors to the gun community because they are working on improving "permissions" and not just sitting back and droning "shall not be infringed" over and over.

There is a saying, "Perfection is the enemy of progress."

If there is no third party candidate I like it'll be a toss up as too if I even vote in the presidential .
One place to start is at the local/state level. When people with a strong sense for restricted government do well locally, then, there is more acceptance for the same attitudes at the national level. And people for election at the national level have shown success at a lower level. (Unless you're a Democrat. Then, failure is usually a stepping stone for greater office.) "

" 3 years?...... and I thought this was an old forum- guess I don't pay attention much anymore. I've been here nearly a year.
I like this format....some of the other forums have some difficult layouts to learn. Like for instance Bersa Chat- I love the group, been a member a long time, maybe 8 years? They changed to a new format last year....I still struggle with it. "
