The selection created significant protests that almost cost him the position. The protesters only complaint about Bruntrager was that his holding that position "brought up too many unpleasant memories for residents." Keep in mind that Webster is nowhere near Ferguson and was not affected by the riots at all that I know of. Fortunately, the city government did not cave and he is now the city attorney.

Basically what the left is trying to say is that it is OK for a vocal minority of public opinion to limit someone's attorney choices through intimidation, which basically undermines due process.

FWIW, St. Louis County now has a new prosecutor and he is being pressured by activist groups to convene a new grand jury for Wilson. Because his case did not get past the grand jury stage, double jeopardy does not apply.
Let's hope he doesn't cave to the mob and reopen the case. Darren Wilson has suffered enough thanks to Michael Brown and his lawlessness. "

Yeah, so much for "white privilege".

As much as I can't stand Hollywood and Liberals that populate it, how is what they did really any different than college's turning a blind eye to academics when it comes to recruiting star football players? I know there are some very smart ones, but most of them couldn't get the required SAT scores to get into a Community College.

Also, everyone knows that if you are wealthy enough to give an endowment to a University, your kid WILL be admitted, no matter what.

I think all the public outrage over what these cheaters did is a little disingenuous. (NOT addressing this to you, SatCong, just a general observation). "

There is nothing to keep any amendment from being proposed once a COS is called.
But the high hurdle of an amendment being ratified prevents a runaway convention.

I would imagine SCOTUS would be seriously limited in power as a result .

I can't think of one politician that I couldn't do without after say...10 or 12 years in office.

I can think of a lot that have outlived their welcome but keep getting re-elected because the incumbent has a big advantage.

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Robert Byrd, Joe Biden, John McCain all come immediately to mind. Reid finally quit but Byrd and McCain were there till the end and I don't see Pelosi or Biden going anywhere soon.

Politics was never meant to be a life time career. They were supposed to go to DC, serve their country for a couple of terms and go home. "

It came up in the WV Legislature this year but didn't make it through the House. There was significant support but not quite enough.

It's the only way we'll ever see Term Limits because there is very little support for it once people get elected.

A CoS can ONLY address the 3 things that have been mentioned, it can't run-away. The worse that can happen is that the issues get voted down. "

They get lots of media attention because of course, the media loves it when anyone denigrates Trump. Anyone foolish enough to challenge Trump in the primary will get crushed.

" I think it's very possible that there could be a 3rd party in the next election. It might not be an official 3rd party and it's not what has been considered on this forum in the past.

I heard the other day that Sanders has a large following but Biden is getting bigger donations and now has more support. Sander's supporters are saying that if the Democrats steal the nomination from Bernie like Hillary did in 2016 they WON'T vote for Biden, they'll either vote for Trump or not vote at all.

That is great news for Republicans. I hope Bernie hangs in there, fights like crazy and doesn't back down like he did with Hillary. There's no way the Democrats will allow Bernie to have the nomination because a Socialist won't win. So, he could be the one to put the nail in the 2020 Democrat coffin.

The other possibility is that Bernie will go full Socialist Party once he sees that Biden is going to get the Democrat nomination. He'll get a huge amount of the under 25 vote because they are the ones addicted to the idea of free stuff and too dumb to know that nothing is ever free.

Either way, it means a big win for Trump.

As far as the other Dims go, they might as well drop out now. It will be Biden for the nomination with Bernie supporters siphoning off a lot of the votes. "

" Judicial Watch has uncovered e-mails (through a FOIA) request that reveals some really damning information on the activities of McCain, Lerner and others.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news...zHEoFvNhMangmE

From the article:

"A new report from Judicial Watch reveals a concerted effort from Sen. John McCain’s office to urge the IRS under Lois Lerner to strike out against political advocacy groups, including tea party organizations.

Thanks to the results of an extensive Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that has been delayed for many years, Judicial Watch has obtained several key emails from 2013 that chronicle McCain’s and Democrat Sen. Carl Levin’s efforts to reign in the advocacy groups that sprouted immediately following the Citizens United decision from the Supreme Court.

The documents uncovered by Judicial Watch include notes from a high-level meeting on April 30, 2013 between powerful members of McCain’s and Levin’s staffs and Lerner, then-director of tax exempt organizations at the IRS under Barack Obama. The notes reveal the suggestions from McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner who urges Lerner to use IRS audits on the advocacy groups to financially ruin them"

jeanlouise created the thread Do you subscribe to OAN?.
" Now that FOX has gone pretty liberal, with a couple of exceptions, I'm thinking about subscribing to OAN and getting their "black box" too.

Do any of you subscribe? If so, do you like it?

There are a couple of FOX shows I like (Fox & Friends, Hannity and Carlson) but the rest of it I can do without.

After they fired Judge Jeanine Pirro this week and hired Donna Brazille, (the liar who fixed the Sanders/Clinton debate but denied she did) I've pretty much had it with FOX and the direction they are going. "

“We beat the NRA by enacting universal background checks and banning high capacity magazines,” he touted.

jeanlouise created the thread WV just passed HB 2519 UPDATE- Not good.
" Just a few minutes ago, in a late session, the House of Delegates passed HB 2519 allowing campus carry.

WVCDL worked very hard to get this passed and the antis were out in force. I'm sure tomorrow the news will be that WV colleges will be drenched in blood, just like they did when WV passed the Open Carry bill. So far, not one person has been shot as a result of it.

I'm impressed that this bill passed given the emotional push back it got.

Now, on to the Senate and of course our ridiculous Gov. It should pass the Senate unless the RINOs act up. "

jeanlouise created the thread Matthew Whittaker is one awesome guy.
" Acting Attorney General Matthew Whittaker was grilled yesterday before Congress. He was insulted, slammed and generally treated to the usual Banana Republic kangaroo court that we have become so familiar with.

For instance, this smarmy comment from Hakeem Jeffries:

“There are many Americans throughout the country who are confused. I’m confused. I really am. We’re all trying to figure out, ‘who are you?’ ‘where did you come from?’ and ‘how the heck did you become the head of the Department of Justice. So hopefully you can help me work through this confusion.” As Whitaker began to answer, Jeffries cut him off. “Mr. Whitaker, that was a statement, not a question,” Jeffries said. “I assume you know the difference"

https://www.thedailybeast.com/rep-ha...ead-of-the-doj

However, Whittaker took down Nadler, after hours of being grilled with this:

Toward the end of his opening round of questions, Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) pressed Whitaker on if he had ever been asked to approve any moves by Mueller’s team.

“Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up,” Whitaker replied. “I’m here voluntarily. I agreed to five-minute rounds.”

He said this after constant round-robin questions going over the same ground and being openly scorned by Democrats. "

jeanlouise created the thread Motorcycle helmets - state law or not?.
" I'm interested in hearing your opinion on this subject.

I'm conflicted about this one. The Conservative/Libertarian in me says that a person should be able to do what he wants and if that includes riding a motorcycle without a helmet, so be it. (this is for adults aged 18 and over)

The other side of me says that the person who does this, wrecks their bike in an accident will eventually becomes a ward of the state in a long term care facility for the rest of their natural lives IF they become a paraplegic or have severe brain trauma.

I realize that won't always be the case because the motorcyclist can sue the other driver if the other driver was at fault and can be awarded multimillion dollar judgments which will pay for their care. However, that's not always the case.

So, do you think a helmet should be mandatory or not? "

jeanlouise created the thread Pelosi wants to postpone the SOTU address because of the shutdodwn.

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday asked President Donald Trump to reschedule his State of the Union address — or deliver it in writing — as long as the government remains shut down."

This divide between parties is really getting bad. I've never seen anything like this before and in my opinion, it shows how desperate the Democrats are to obstruct Trump and Republicans. It's no longer just politics, it's war between the Right and the Left. It's very bad for our country and seems to be reaching a fever pitch.

On a side note, I've been looking for a statement from Pelosi denouncing the 15 member (plus staff) trip to Puerto Rico to lounge by the pool, eat, drink and make merry with PR "officials" and Lobbyists during the shut-down.

The State of the Union Address is wrong during the shut-down, but Democrats partying in PR isn't. Hummmmm. "
