The Badger replied to the thread Palm Beach Police Chief Calls for Change in Open Carry Law.
" I take issue with this idea that doing something like this is 'baiting' anyone. If the cops had not come there nothing would have happened. Don't fall for this as a 'thing'. There's no baiting happening if the cops aren't being overly aggressive or overly entitled. "

I know, what your talking about lol.

Dejeka, was justified in firing his weapon.
You can say you wouldn't because, like another poster here you had the 20 20 hindsight of a video to construe however you wish .

And , it wasn't your butt blindsided violently pushed to the ground, and hovered over by your attacker even after you drew ypur gun and hesitated before firing.

But back to this thread, would you like to attempt to put up a defense for this idiot officers actions?
It's a slippery slope. First you shove grandma, then you start saying 'your' when you mean 'you are'. Next thing you you're drawing guns with crayons and not going to the range anymore. "

" Apparently this LEO was arrested and charged with murder:

As he should have been. I think they should stop doing these and stop hiring guys like this and Guyger. "

The Badger replied to the thread Just a thought.
" The real problem isn't what that wall of text might say. It's that the reason is that those advocating it are bullies or entitled. They want to have the guns (mostly in the form of bodyguards), or they don't want you to be able to stop them from bullying you.

It's not about fear of guns, not realizing guns are defensive or thinking people use them improperly.

Once you realize this you're better off. "

" These days, going by the Guyger case, LEOs are looking for reasons to fire their sidearms. I mean maybe they have a surplus of ammo?

The Badger replied to the thread Makes one feel all warm and fuzzy when cops arrive..
" I was friends with one of the guys who became the head of the department in a county near mine. We lifted weights together. He told me that most departments have an 'enforcer', a guy who will go rough people up and who is basically out of control. He didn't say his department had one but we talked about how and why departments sometimes had a guy or two like them.

We had another guy who was known to be out of control. He was to the top cop in Greene County back in the 80s. Everyone knew what he did and he was feared. I don't know what happened to him, probably retired.

Because of the way cops are, I actually carry my firearm less, because I am concerned about the way cops feel they can make people consent to searches and they can be invasive over minor things. I stopped carrying to class at the University. In fact we pulled up to park in our space and a University cop was parked there, sideways and he said 'be right back I have to go help a student'. We were friendly. When he came back instead of thanking us, which he did, I saw him looking around in the car, looking for 'problems' or something. So, though he was in the wrong, parked illegally in a space where he should not be he treated us, the patient people waiting for him as though we were suspects.

It's a sad state, but there it is. "

The Badger created the thread All this angry 'Lashing Out' - it's wrong..
" I get why people here who are good ppl, well-meaning want to lash out - 'strip him of his medal', or 'increase penalties for this person', or be harsher to people whose actions seem bad.

We must support following the (existing) law(s), following the existing penalties, following the well-proven system of Executive, Legislature and Judicial.

Judges judge/interpret - they should not be making new law (in effect) by declaring someone 'disturbed' and thus the law doesn't apply. They should FOLLOW the law. It's that way for a reason.

The Executive branch should not be issuing executive order.

LE should bring them in ALIVE to stand trial - yes no matter how heinous - and WE of all people should not be advocating beating up suspects on the way to jail or lashing out at them, no matter how tempting.

Follow the law. Don't offer to LE when stopped that you have a firearm if you know you are in a no need to disclose state, AND you disclose you have a license! Period. You do nobody ANY favors by overstepping, blabbing, or telling and thinking you're a 'good guy'. You're just ignorant. You're teaching LE they have rights when they don't.

Do what the law requires, be polite. Have penalties apply EVEN to the bad, bad guy. Don't be snarky and call names.

Be consistent, have integrity, rein in your bad behavior, because WE are smart, LAC. Understand, inform yourself what 'law-abiding' means. We are not fools and uneducated, or angry, acting-out children. People, newbies look to us to set an example. Being 'sassy' or sarcastic has its place in the humor forum.

I'm lecturing myself as well. It's easy, given the actions of some people in the news, to fall off the 'path'.

Don't do it. It's hard, I know.

/rant "
