On Monday I am sending in a deposit on a Host truck camper and trading in my 18 year old Yukon for a GMC 3500 duromax dually. It should be ready by mid October. I’m getting too old and fragile to sleep in the Yukon.

That looks really cool. Great use of space but at $60,000+ I don't see the value. Seems more practical and economical to get a pull behind that will have much more space.

With this set up I can bring along my boat.

Cool. That makes a lot of sense now. Hope to see some pictures of it in use when you get it. Good luck.

In some states you can tow behind a gooseneck but you need a special license

Made-to-order as well, eh? A 3500 dually: that'll work. Hot tub, water bed, integrated massage unit, room for the butler ... and can tow the boats whenever you like.

The 3500 is almost maxed out because the camper is close to 5000 lbs when loaded.

That's a deluxe portable tiny home - not what I would call a camper. Will you get maybe 4 miles a gallon?

I never enjoyed camping, even in a fairly nice pull behind camper. After one day every thing was covered with grit and stayed that way until we got back home. But that was traveling with a passel of kids which is a very different thing from "older folks" -- I think. The big advantage was that we could take food and make our own in the little kitchen.
Don't just post your feelings here, please. DO SOMETHING that can make a difference.

Tennessee and a few other states allow doubles (pickup, 5th wheel, plus a boat) with no special license.

At the other end of the spectrum is CA, where RVers may require various endorsements just for a travel trailer.

Don't do a double tow in FL... Only ones allowed are semis. Go figure.

I added a 370 watt solar panel and a 3000 watt inverter/charger fed by 4 Lithium Ion batts. In theory I can spend the night in air conditioned splendor on internal power. During the day I can recharge with an external Honda 2000. Since I am in neck deep I may just get the new Honda 2500 watt genny which has the same footprint.
The sad part is I have to take “ delivery” at a truck stop in Va or SC to avoid the 6.7% N.C. “ truck accessory tax.
