I only lost one fight in my whole life. I slipped running around a corner and he caught me.

Great tip from a Special Forces Navy SEAL Ranger ! It may come in handy some day.

    Wouldn't help me. A 72 year old man can't run. That's why I carry a 1911 45. I cheat.

Wisdom at it's finest. I'm not quite 72 yet, but I second what SatCong said.
We must all hang together amigos, or we will all hang separately.

At 67 there is no running in me left. In that scenario I might have to Stand My Ground (But it was hysterical and very truthful)

Yeah I watched that vid twice. First time I was slow to react but I still laughed. Second time I laughed quicker. Mostly I laughed at the Ranger Navy Seal intro as he ran like a rabbit really making tracks he was.

One day at the Park I stopped to watch a faller take down a Doug fir danger tree. Really tall I'd say 250-300' EZ. 150+ feet before the branches started. I was a good distance away 100yd easy and faller was halfway up and made his first cut. It was good tree went down and faller was OK. I still ran 25-30yd out of instinct.

    Mister Obnoxious.

I was around 55 that day. Running just that 75-80' was it for me. That was 3yr prior to the onset of my arthritis. My running days were over before that I just dint know it yet.

At 80+ I rely on the OODA Loop by military strategist John Boyd. The four steps of the OODA Loop are Observe, Orient, Decide, Act. The older I get the more I rely on my awareness of my surroundings.

I can still run, but much slower than I used to. I'd probably still try it, while making quick glances over my shoulder to make sure said perp wasn't gaining/closing in on me. Age, and ankle surgery in 2012, both contribute to my running speed being pretty pathetic.

I rode a horse for a living working cattle for 20 years so you can imagine the state of my body. I am like SatCong, I can't run, but I do carry everywhere I can go.

If I have to pass through a metal detector, I usually just stay at home.

Funny, but mostly true if you do not have a gun. Most empty hand knife defenses I have seen are pretty lame. But, if you have the opportunity to train with a competent instructor, I think you should.
Having some training against a knife is better than having none. Some defensive techniques can make the difference between merely being cut and being killed if you are cornered with no escape. That being said, given the nature of our society and the degree of lawlessness that is everywhere around us, I continue to be amazed that more people do not carry a gun. I think a gun should be as much a part of your everyday dress as a shirt or pants.
