Kudos to her. She did what she had to do and stopped him. Having said that, I would not intentionally choose a .22 for my home defense gun. But if that's all you have, it's a whole lot better than nothing.

As Fallsrider said it's better than nothing but I'm thinking 2-3 rounds of almost any centerfire round and the quote would have been different, assuming placement.

When deputies arrived, they found Dority lying on the ground with non-life-threatening wounds.

    A hit with a 22 is better than a miss with a 44.

Hm. If the five different wounds were all non-life threatening, one has to wonder what got him to the ground.

I suspect the guy's heart really wasn't in it, and/or he wasn't all that experienced. Am assuming being shot several times just surprised him. Can't imagine it would have stopped a really determined person, if none of those wounds were all that bad.

Glad she got the job done. Hopefully she'll consider going "up" to at least a .380 or .38sp for her defensive sidearm, on the fair chance that the next assailant won't be so compliant.

For the attacker: you got what was coming to you, bud. Suck it up.

I guess it depends on how loosely you define "life threatening". It doesn't mean they weren't severe, just that he probably won't die of them.

"38, 39 whatever it takes" anything is better than nothing at all. Good chance the 22 is all the lady felt comfortable with and it seems she was.

The infamous story of the cop that emptied his .357 only to die at the hands of a single .22 round comes to mind.

My mom used to say it doesn't take much, it just takes the right one. She was a nurse, and knew all about things like the femoral artery, the carotid artery ...... she had a habit of grabbing us kids, before we learned better, by the upper arm and clamping down on the brachial artery. Pretty much put a stop to us messing around and usually only had to happen a very few times before we learned better. She's the one that told that I if I had to shoot a man aim for the groin first. Except that's not exactly how she worded it.

While I wouldn't pick one for home defense because of rimfire being notorious for duds ,assuming no duds or hangups a person armed with a 22lr semi auto rifle is pretty well Armed.
16 rapid rounds of 22 hitting a person says stop pretty forcefully
Odd how most folks who say they support the Constitution as written ,,,,,,,,,,,,really don't.
