    CCI Segmented .22 LR

Anybody had any experience with these? My gun shop guy sold me a couple of boxes the other day when I asked him, "If you absolutely had to use a .22 as an SD pistol, is there anything better than just plain old LR hollow points?" My question would be do they penetrate enough to do the job when they break up?

Don't know about the ammo you are asking about but the 22 LR hollow points do okay on armadillos and they have quite the armor.

The amount of travel of the pieces may mean more damage but not sure that helps or hinders. It could actually hinder. If you nail COM you have a chance at severing the Aorta, but if these separate and travel that far away from each other it could narrowly miss a major part that would end a threat.

CCI says it may not cycle semiautos but is quiet. Probably not what you'd want for SD. I'll stick with MiniMags.

    32 gr @ 1,640 fps.

If Stingers cycle in a particular semi-auto, these should too.

.22lr is cheap enough ($0.11/round) to try a bunch and establish reliability.

I just ordered a couple years' supply of copper plated 40 gr. round nose CCI mini mags. I have a few hundred rounds of CCI mini mag hollow points on hand but as of this moment in time I do not need to use my .22 guns for SD, so I think I'm good for fun shooting for the foreseeable future: At my age one can't count on seeing TOO far into the future. I just don't want to run out of the "stuff" I need, or think I need.

Cost incl. shipping insurance in case of loss of package plus adult signature required (shipping was free) came to .062 per round. That's .02 more per round than the Aguila Super high velocity that my Ruger Mark IV Lite will not shoot. Plenty of Aguila left for the M&P .22 compact for a long time also. Might buy one more .22 handgun just for the heck of it, if I like the Ruger SR22 my friend has.

Pew, pew, pew. Life is good.
