Licensed gun owner aids Illinois cops in shootout with suspect; 1 officer injured

    My old home state.
“We were lucky enough to have a citizen on the street there’s who’s a concealed-carry holder, and he’s also engaged in gunfire,” said Cicero police Superintendent Jerry Chlada Jr.

This has got to be fake news.

    1. The BG could not have had a gun. Chicago and Illinois have laws prohibiting that.
    2. The armed citizen could not have been legal in Illinois. The laws are too prohibitive for him to have that gun legally.

    Think of the chillins.

Don't fool yourself, there's a lot of legal weapons, down state from Chicago.

That could be a dicey situation, to hop out of your car and begin firing during a police shootout. If I had the opportunity to help an LEO in a dire situation I would, but it could become problematic if backup officers arrive to assist an officer under fire and see someone with a gun. Acting with the best of intentions COULD be misunderstood, with severe consequences.

Unfortunately, this will be swept under the rug just as swiftly as the Uber driver who stopped a mass shooting in Chicago by engaging the shooter with his EDC. We can't have voters thinking about good guys using their guns to defend police and/or civilians in November now can we?

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/l...419-story.html

The driver had a concealed-carry permit and acted in the defense of himself and others, Assistant State's Attorney Barry Quinn said in court Sunday.

A group of people had been walking in front of the driver around 11:50 p.m. Friday in the 2900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when Everardo Custodio, 22, began firing into the crowd, Quinn said.

The driver pulled out a handgun and fired six shots at Custodio, hitting him several times, according to court records. Responding officers found Custodio lying on the ground, bleeding, Quinn said. No other injuries were reported.

If as reported, it's a nice example of what a well-armed society can result in: the good guys being capable of putting down bad guys once they pop up from their holes (during crimes).

Nice to see that the Chicago Trib has reported it. Not exactly a no-name paper, there.

Of course, it's fairly unlikely there's be days-upon-days of hammering on the news item, given that there's no "there" there in the story. No racial angle (so far), no cop-involved action, nothing other than an upstanding person halting a baddie. Sensationalism sells, and there's nothing sensational about standing up and doing what's right ... at least, not when the RKBA is involved.

Hopefully that'll change. In Chicago as well. That'd be nice. 'Cause, outside of the major cities, there is such a huge percentage of fairly conservative, fairly well-armed folks in Illinois. It'd be nice to see, such a change.

According to internet lore, there's no such thing as an armed good guy, he should have been shot 30-40 times by the police, they definitely would not have appreciated his aid, he'd have been arrested on the spot, and he'll still be sued by the family of the suspect. I've heard that on the Internet.

I'm in FULL AGREEMENT with you OV. But you don't REALLY think Illinois cops would actually score 30-40 hits on the GG do you? You got the rest of it correct tho.

Me thinks it's time you thinned out your Margaritas.

The local (to me) radio talk show host said the GG shot three times and thought he hit the BG. He also said the BG got hit once in the belly. I guess ballistics should show who made the hit. If it turns out it was the good samaritan's shot that connected it would bear out what you said about the Illinois cops marksmanship.

Hate to break any-ones bubble, but there is some Illinois Cops that are very good shots. I have done run and gun, three gun shoots, PPC and bullseye with some them. Just my $.02!

If you would read the post closely, I never said they were bad shots. What I did say was the evidence may add credence to what NONAME762 said.
Besides, I heard the best shot in Illinois moved to Arizona or someplace.

No problemo, I seem to have a knack for getting people teed off, even when I don't try.
