The best handgun caliber for what?

When I put the chickens to bed every night I have a .22 LR on my hip for any four legged critters in the barn.

9mm gets me a good concealable small pistol for NY's 10 round limit and an EDC.

.45 ACP 1911 in the nightstand.

.38 Spl in a M14 S&W with mid-range wadcutters lets me hunt for bunnies and squirrels out to 25 yards and past.

A .44 Mag as a back-up pistol when hunting for a coup-de-merci or even a primary hunting pistol.

    It's good to have choices.
You have way too many guns.....wait!!! What did I just say?????

No I did not watch the video. I sure nothing is brought out that hasn't been already.

Size matters, unless you don't have it.

And then there is the other factor - non caliber specific: How well do you aim?
    That, too.

I dearly love the .44mag cartridge, for example. But I'm vastly more accurate with a "hot" 9mm load, by comparison. And given that the average "big" 9mm has roughly ~twice the number of .44 cartridges in the magazine, that pretty much seals it for me.

    2006 Dodge. 5.9 Cummings. 610 lb-ft @ 1,600 rpm. Plenty of destructive Ram power.
Besides Ram power I'll have either 9mm jhp or .38+P in a six shot revolver

Clearly the take away from most of these questions is that the best gun to have is one with you when you need it - whatever style and caliber.

Beats the one at home in the safe hands down every time.

So much depends on the experience and skill level of the person. I am perfectly happy with my EDC...BHP 9MM with 124 gr. Hornady XTP's or Federal HST's. I've carried that for years on and off the job, fired it under stress, and go to the range enough to maintain my skills. I will at least double-tap (you should, too), and there are plenty more where those two came from. But, when I go cycling, I often just carry a Browning 1911 .22 in a clip on holster. It is not a man-stopper, but two or three to COM will certainly get his attention. Ruger SP101 .357 2 1/4 inch in truck safe.

Saw one of those, in pristine condition, just the other day, as I recall. Strong power, fairly quick acceleration. I'd figured the guy must have had post-delivery work done to the engine, but perhaps not. Blew past me like I was standing still (@ 30mph and accelerating). Nice truck. A bit much for summer, but I bet it's a brute during winter and off-roading, or while towing.

Moral of the story: right tool for the job.

    The Best Handgun Caliber
    Ah, yes. The eternal question.

I'm generally of the "bigger is better" frame of mind. As in 45acp > 25acp.

That said, I definitely think shot placement > than whatever caliber.

I carry 38+P about 98% of the time.

Let's see if I can summarize the video's conclusions to the data. Corrections welcome where you disagree.
    Bigger is better.
    Faster is better than slower.
Bigger and faster together are better than either one alone.
And, I don't recall it saying, but on target is better than off target.

For a old man, it's got to be a 230 grain coming out of a 1911, and I do know it works very well.
