Now that could get you shot. By the police.

Better outcome is that he left, even if he got had away.
I would of had the gun away before they arrived. I had 3 others here after that could of held him down, just didn't think of it at the time.

Who are you to argue with the state? That's the best one I've heard in awhile.
I don't argue when they are correct.

It's just they so seldom are on SD and RTKABA issues LOL.

I've read all the replies and I appreciate all the feedback.
I have done a lot of thinking and re reading of Indiana laws and I could of shot him and walked away. Heck I remember a person who shot someone before they got in and he walked.
I would change 1 thing, hold him here until the cops arrived. Other then that, I am ok with how it turned out.
Sometimes the way we read State Statutes and the way the State interprets the same can be surprising. At least here in Oregon anyways. I'd be happy with the same outcome if it was me. I don't have to hire a lawyer. No work lost. Plus I don't have to clean up an awful mess.
I'm gonna guess say since your bad guy has done this before that he's not use to being confronted by an armed homeowner .
I'm glad you and your sidearm were close together. Good job and thanks for sharing.

Always expect the unexpected, keep the doors locked unless they are being used, and stay armed at all times.

Probably hasn't and hope he learns his lesson.
I know he will get no time or little time even with priors. County prosecutor not into putting anyone in a jail cell longer then they were there for book in and court.
I keep it close and looking at buying another handgun. Stuck between a Sig Sauer 2022 40 cal or Springfield XDE 9 mm

I'd keep aware of exactly when he's released. He got "pinched" because of you ... and he knows where you live. At least for the next several months, watch your back, Jack.

He was out on Nov 30th. I know he has my address from court records but I'm moving soon. Hopefully he doesn't come back around.

Me too. I like the fact it has a hammer and not striker fire. I am not a fan on striker fire handguns.

I would have done the same thing as you; but, if he became a returning customer, then he is playing with his life.
I marched someone out of my house once, at the receiving end of a .357 Magnum. He was a fool that pushed his luck, and he is lucky that I am merciful.

I would keep my doors locked and (yes) I would point a gun at a stranger who just walked into my house. As far as what level of force should be applied, that's all depending on many varying nuances of the moment. Other than your door not being locked, I have no real criticism of you. good luck
