Spring breakers fight off would-be robbers and take their gun

Good for them and I am glad none of the kids were hurt. I think there are lots of learning lessons in this video

The primary one is that they did not consider there was a second robber. Lots of times it looked like the gunman could have shot the kids. I think that there was something wrong with the gun (not loaded) or more likely the gunman was overwhelmed and might not have had the stomach to actually shoot someone.

    Yes, they are lucky.

Apparently, they got a felon who wasn't all that interested in murder. Else he'd have come out blasting once they began to put up resistance. Even when clearly having his finger on the trigger and being wrestled around, he failed to fire upon the guy right in front of him (on his left shoulder/arm). Lucky. Could easily have found themselves facing someone with a far less-accommodating nature.

    Good lesson:

If you've got two or more folks hanging around while pumping gas or otherwise a sitting target, have at least one of those people on-guard and armed, monitoring the nearby environment for brewing or inbound threats ... and actually be capable of putting self-defense into immediate action if need be. Had two of those three been heavily armed, and ready to deploy, the robber who threatened their murder would be toes-up and the other guy'd be facing a felony murder charge and three charges of aggravated attempted robbery.

If you're flying solo and making such stops, you're far more likely to survive such an encounter by being well-armed and ready for instantaneous deployment. Pretty hard to survive it intact and avoiding becoming victimized, without the practical means of immediate and effective self-defense.
Cardinal principle: Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without it.

If you are by yourself, that nozzle you are holding can be as effective as a bullet, a good squirt of gas in your face will deter most folks.

All likely hood the BGS gun was non functional.

Its surprising how many " armed robberies " use a gun that won't work or isn't loaded.

I do agree with the law deeming such a firearm functional. Same as a finger in a jacket pocket.

To consider it otherwise would require a criminal to actually fire a round to prove functionality.
