Woman delivering pizzas beaten, robbed...her gun taken

East New Orleans ain't the best part of town, but not the worst either..... This is just bad AND lucky at the same time.

Lady delivering pizzas is stopped, robbed, and beaten.

The article doesn't say what specificity transpired, but something between a lapse in situational awareness and/or a lack of resolve at the moment of truth is my initial feeling.... I could very well be wrong either way. Or maybe I missed something .....

Y'all keep your heads on a swivel......

Seems like pizza delivery has always been one of the more dangerous jobs.

The article said she had a gun and the thieves took it also. I remember it took me many months of serious practice before I felt I was actually ready to carry my gun after I got the carry permit. I didn't want to be an easy target for a gun snatcher. Still always need a swivel head, though.

My brother talked of getting a gun ...... I told him no.
He delivered pizza and now drives Uber .... and does not have the resolve to pull the trigger. No amount of training will overcome that flaw in him. So .... no gun. No sense being shot with your own gun.

I suspect you're right ..... and perhaps a combination of lack of awareness and lack of resolve.

Could have been lack of awareness, lack of resolve, or just fooled into thinking there was no threat. Sounds like it was two on one, with the two perps already having firearms out. Hard to say what would have happened had she had the time to get her weapon out first, or during the confrontation.

Could have been several things .

She very possibly had no time to react.

    The,term
SA is used alot in carrier circles.

But in the real world , while its a good thing to practice, SA isn't a magical skill that will make one aware of everything happening around them.

The best of us can be surprised despite best efforts.

    This^^^ What Ghost said.

Your gun is not a talisman that protects you from evil. Your SA is not some magical power. We should all remember that anything can happen to any of us at any time, any place. Having a gun and SA just improves our chances.

I'm just curious. Assuming your brother is grown , why would not get a gun anyway.

My sister could have told me that but she would have been wrong, and ignored.

Nobody knows how they will react until the cocconut falls.

You'd have to know my brother, my 52 year old brother, as well as I do.

Think maybe I phrased,it wrong. Why would your 52 yr,old brother ask your permission to do anything?
Much less, something he has, every right to do.

You'd have to know my brother. He doesn't need to ask my permission, but he did ask my advice, and knowing him very well and knowing the circumstances under which he was asking and in talking to him that day my gut reaction is putting a pistol in his hands is a bad idea. It will just get taken away from him and used on him.

I've got one or two family members who are much like that. In one case, I've previously asked about the person's ability to defend in various situations, along with the level of determination to survive it, etc. Turns out, with such a deep-seated disdain for "harming" others, it's likely to be an insurmountable impediment in an actual violent situation. Delay, getting disarmed, then getting violated. According to the logic, there, probably worse than if meekly submitting from the outset.
Cardinal principle: Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without it.
Explain: How does disarming victims reduce the number of victims?

I was sucker punched about a month ago. I don't know if it was the "knock-game" or just someone mad at the world. It was from the front and I was able to drop my head into my shoulder so I was hit in the forehead instead of the eye socket or jaw. I still went down hard. I was then kicked twice in the ribs. I had no chance what-so-ever to draw nor was I in any condition to aim and shoot; if I had tried, I probably would have lost the gun and who knows what else.

The point is that SA is great, but stuff happens very, very fast when it hits the fan. Lesson learned after 13 stitches and a cracked rib that still hurts.

You got the like because you are correct, not because of what happened to you...
