    Question Scopes...

I'm looking into replacing the old 4X scope I'm using on my Mongoose AR with something of a higher power. I have limitations: the longest range available is 200 yards, hiking 100 yards on these knees is a pain (Hoping to get them replaced in Nov.), and I'm a cheapskate.

Because the Mongoose is essentially a paper-punching range toy only, I'm looking at something in the 4x12 or 4x16 range. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just useable. BDCs don't make me all giddy, giant "tactical" knobs don't interest me, and a 3x9 Bushnell has always done the job out to 300+ yards for me.

I've looked into Vortex, Primary Arms, Nikon, and a few others. I seriously doubt I'll invest more than $300, so don't say, "Get this $2000 scope!"

So what suggestions/experiences might some of you have in that range that may serve my purposes?

    I really like Nikon optics.

This one is in your price range.

I don't have a Vortex, but I always hear lotsa good comments on them.

The Bushnell Engage 4-16x44mm (P/N REN41644DG) has a thin crosshair/MOA reticle, 30mm tube, 44mm objective lens, is IP7 waterproof, and has the Bushnell "iron-clad" lifetime warranty. Available from Bushnell @ $325.

The Nikon P3 series 6-18x40mm AO scope is ~$250 from Nikon. 1in tube, mil-dot reticle, waterproof, and lifetime warranty.

I love the Nikon Monarch series scopes. Very nice, for the money. I've had a couple of ProStaff series scopes and thought they gave ~80% of the clarity and features for half the cash as compared to the Monarch line. Would absolutely do another Nikon, myself, if looking for another scope.

The 1" tube would be preferably as the mount I have now is 1".

The guys at deer camp were in total amazement. If you got the 12x, I don't think, for the money you will be disappointed .

If you like it, then either group can deliver the card to me.

So far, so good. Tried it while fireforming some Mongoose cases. Took a few rounds to figure out the adjustments but then quickly got them hitting where I wanted. 12X at 50 yards I can see the holes, a major improvement. For whatever reason, I always manage to throw one flyer in every groups of five.

I'm not going to worry about improving mush until after I have a cataract replace late next month. But for my limited purpose, I think the scope will be fine.

    Yuck, yuck yuck!
