    Question MagnetoSpeed Sporter Chrongraph?

Load work ups for my 6mm Mongoose have me looking into chronographs, something I've never used before. The MagnetoSpeed Sport chrony caught my eye, not only because of the price, but that it is barrel mounted and doesn't require setting up in front of the firing line. If I'm going to use ballistic tables, it helps to have an accurate bullet velocity (Duh!). It is also very compact, easily fitting into the day backpack I use for a range bag.

Reviews I've read are good, although I noted one reviewer said it would change the POI but not group size. That's not a real concern for me as I wouldn't be using it at ranges beyond 100 yards.

Anyone use one or have insight as to their accuracy?

I tried out my Sporter today and find out quickly that sensor distance from bore is critical to performance. I started with the thicker spacer to avoid shooting the sensor tip off, but 10 shots gave no readings. Switching to the thin spacer and all ran fine. I did get one Velocity reading that seemed way out of line with expectations, like 300 fps higher than the rest, and threw the SD and ES way off.

Other than my erroneous set up and that one reading, all went well, and I got some encouraging numbers from my Mongoose loads. 3000+ fps 70-grain loads is nothing to sneeze at.

That was my thinking, although one could certainly hit this one if blade alignment isn't carefully checked. It does need to run closely aligned to the bore to operate, which took me ten shots to figure out!
