    Horse camping

Spent a week in the saddle, first time in probably 20 years, with a friend. He supplied the horses and most of the trail gear, rustic to say the least. A week in the saddle, and sleeping on the ground in simply a sleeping bag, sans any type of pad, made me realize two things. I am 60 years old, and both saddles and the earth have gotten so hard in the past 40 years since this was an almost weekend thing. I had aches in muscles I forgot I had, and am still barely able to walk upright after a few days rest.

Went with basic simple gear, the 1873, one of my own handmade blades, a 1970s Imperial Pioneer which has spent many days in camp with me, and an Inova x5 with red led which tends to disturb animals less then bright white lights. We spent a bit of time reducing the coyote population with a couple of .243 Savages we both happen to own.

Well, you made it back and eventually you will be walking again, right? I'm not sure my bottom and legs could handle a gentle trail ride anymore and am not going to try it to find out. The memories of when I did ride are good ones and am leaving it that way.
Don't just post your feelings here, please. DO SOMETHING that can make a difference.

Yea, I am feeling better every day, and it was a blast, pain included it was something we have been talking about doing again for a long time. We decided it was time to get in the saddle and do it, or else we never would.

Happiness is not in having all that you want, but in enjoying all that you have. Good kit.

    Stumpy - also 1959 vintage. ;-)

Sounds like a great week, it’s been over 50 years since I was in a saddle and I doubt I could even get in one now.

I hate camping with my horse.
He hogs up all the room in the tent. Snores. And Lord help you if he breaks wind.
