Same here Sarge. I was buying SGT ROCK and GI COMBAT and read about Sgt. J. E. B. STUART the CO of an M3 Stuart Light Tank in the ETO the 1st time I saw a MAD Magazine at JP's a small IGA near my house. Back then you could read them some you know just to make sure you got a good one. I was there ALL the time and was a regular customer swapping empty pop bottles for 3 cents a piece. Anywho MAD cost more but one got MORE pages
so it was a better deal so I got one. After buying that 1st one I WAS SOLD on MAD.

My Mom was constantly threatening to take them away from me but she never did.

It isn't ceasing production, just not going to be in the magazine racks at stores and newsstands anymore. Mad is still available by subscription:

Mad is a true American icon. Long live Alfred E. Neuman.

Yes, I am a bit saddened to see Mad Magazine fold. I used to love reading it as a kid. No more Spy vs Spy or Alfred E. Newman. I especially liked their satire of movies. The one I remember most was of the "Godfather" when the writers wrote that the Lawyer in the family wanted to be a criminal lawyer but only finished the "criminal" part. Brilliant.

I wonder what kind of tripe will be replacing this icon. That is the scary thought of the day.

Never did like Mad Magazine much, back in the day. Seemed a bit too strange, focusing for the most part on the counter-culture end of the spectrum. Preferred Rolling Stone, for its articles and music focus, to be honest.

They sure did hang it all out there, though. Very unique.

The same people who are leading the battle against cat juggling, with funding by Navin Johnson.

Rolling Stone used to be a fantastic periodical, but nowadays it’s the same as SNL and Late Night Comedy- a progressive screeching post, overly concerned with telling us how we should live instead of covering the intended subject.

I've watched that happen to any number of computer industry magazines. They left the newsstands, went to subscription only, and then to "advertiser-supported", and then to "online ad farm."
