That’s why they earn their name...
Yep. They may have a good supply. They may have pleasant employees, they may even have quality merchandise..

...but now; they don't have Dick!

How moral of them, and how enlightened. This is what you get when a nation forgets its hero's and founders, and become a heap of debris.

    I won’t darken their doorstep.

I prefer supporting my local gun shop.

I wonder if they really did destroy those weapons or if they said they did and sold them somewhere.

Why not just return them to the manufacturer and get a refund? IDK, maybe they can't do that? I don't work in retail so I'm not sure.

I can't imagine any company willingly destroying 5 million dollars worth of merchandise that people would snap up in a second if they put it on sale.

Dick's has lost sight of it's customer base and I bet it doesn't last many more years. It's reputation is more for hunting, fishing , camping and shooting...not what the hipsters with disposable income are looking for anymore, at least not in the numbers that are needed to carry the brand.
I'm sure the $5M number is full MSRP, not wholesale cost.

Also suspect many were floor models/demos, marred units, or old inventory held beyond reasonable return dates.

But the CEO discussed this in an interview and stated the election was to destroy them rather than return them to be sold to someone else... Now if he really wanted to buy all the guns in circulation and destroy them then I would be more likely to respect his altruistic belief.

But since he is not going to do that, I put my opinion more in the realm of his book -- which is about to hit the shelves -- and then must consider the possibility he may run for office after building his public persona.

    ^ Wouldn't surprise me.

As CEO, he's sure not acting in the best interests of the shareholders, via destroying $5M of their value right under their noses. If he felt so strongly, he'd have coughed up the $5M himself. But, no, true to form, he's willing to destroy the value of others to accomplish his minor social re-engineering ploy.
