I had a full hip replacement last august and it was pain free. I walked 3 1/2 miles the day before my 2 week checkup.

Knees are a whole other thing though. Guy beside me at rehab was working his knee and it looked very painful it think the screaming and crying he was doing made it look worse than it was though. My hip was done in Gainesville, Florida at the orthapedic institute and I have nothing but great things to say about them.

I wish you a painless and speedy recovery OV.

At least we won't have to listen to (read) your dribble during the holidays.

Good luck with the surgery and recovery.
I've already written a pile of generic snarky posts. The wife will be filling in for me and using them.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Well, it probably could. Probably has before. Actually, I'm sure it has. Many times. And will again.

But still, I wish you a speedy recovery! And enjoy the pain meds!

We will all understand if our Christmas cards arrive late this year.

The recovery process will give him lots of extra time to work on the Christmas cards so I'll be expecting mine early this year!

Custom bionics. Supposed to straighten out the bowed legs and add up to an inch in height. I'm thinking NBA as a second career.

Twelve years after being told I needed knee replacement, it is finally on the calendar for December. Both knees, three days apart. I want it over and done with. Kind of sucks to be during that time frame, was hoping for early Nov., but it is what it is.

All the docs I saw said not until I lost weight. Now I've done that, so it's full speed ahead. I know it will be a tough recovery, but hopefully mobility will be restored enough to increase my level of physical activity. Let the games begin.
Good luck to you, hope you have a speedy recovery.

My mom had both knees done when she was in her 60ís, she had a difficult time with the recovery but at least you cant chicken out on the second knee.

He's probably going to need a new notebook to protect the table from scratching out my name...

Eh, about all of those meds don't work for me. I usually rely on medicinal bourbon. Those shots don't require needles.

I had a relative do this in the last couple of years. She said she wishes she would have done it years earlier! Lots of mobility restored, and a lot less pain, once the PT was done.

She did say the PT was like torture, but she also says you MUST follow the therapist's instructions and NOT skip any of the PT. She said that to whatever degree you slack off on PT, you might permanently lose range of motion in that knee.

Sounds pretty ambitious to do both at once, but I hope that works out great for you, OldVet!

My boss recently got a store bought knee. He's as good as new. He'll be doing the other one soon. Good news for you. Take care.

I have a buddy who got a knee swap, to do just that. Severely bowed and twisted leg, but the new knee made it ~95% straight. He's hopping along with everyone else, now, some ~9mos after his replacement.

If you're dealing with lots of pains now, from what I've seen (from numerous friends who've done it) there is a near-total erasure of pains ... of course, replaced in part with aches from all the muscles now needing to get whipped back into shape. Net positive, for every one of them that I've heard of.

Best of luck with it. Sounds like a much-needed improvement.
