I always wanted one in .45/70. I read a magazine review of one many years ago. The writer said it key-holed at seven yards, but said that wasn't necessarily bad for a .45/70 round for close range self-defense.

They were useful in keeping card games honest.

If I brought one to a local poker game with buds, I'd be severely outgunned.

I hate to wake up an old thread, but I just traded for a 357 Magnum Bond Arms Derringer.

It has a 3” Barrel and weighs 20 Oz.

It is almost as big as a J Frame S&W 640. I find the trigger to be heavy at around 7-8 lbs by feel. It has a safety.

I haven’t shot it. If someone would carry it, how would you? Cocked with safety on, uncocked with safety off or other?

I have two North American Arms revolvers. They’re realistically 7 yard guns.

They may serve a purpose for some, but the ones I've fired were nasty little critters (410, 45acp, 38 Special). Difficult to hold and manipulate. Yes, I know what their intended usage is; I just think there are better alternatives (like my wifes little Colt 25acp she inherited).
There is a bit of a learning curve.

I had hoped the Double Tap derringer would have gotten a good reputation, but it didn't. I thought it was an ideal design for a BUG, but it seemed to have too many shortcomings.

This is my Bond Arms Century 2000 in .45 Colt / .410 2-1/2" & 3". I bought it as a "fun gun", and because of it's high quality all Stainless Steel construction. While I wouldn't carry it concealed, I sure wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it either. My wife did the felt lining in, "Whore House Red".

In certain situations I can see how these would come into play. The Bond Arms 357 Magnum 2 Round Derringer is such a fun fun to shoot.
